View Full Version : YPN and AdSense are not much different

Will after about a month now I have learned that YPN is really about the same as AdSense, I remember when I was first in AdSense the earnings were crap, then as I tweaked and tweaked and added images, and all the other stuff I learned here in the forum, my earnings grew and grew, I then thought WOW! This is getting to be so awesome.........
So for maybe 3 months my AdSense earnings went higher as my unique visitors slowly climbed, then Sep 1 'smart pricing' hit my site, and boom...... My daily average of AdSense making $30 went to $4 on a good day.
Then after time I got accepted into YPN, I moved to that around Nov 5 or so, and WOW ! Incredible EPC - $2.00 per click or more, very low Click amounts due to non relavant ads, but the EPC more than made up for it.
After two weeks, my YPN EPC started rapidly dropping also, now it has leveled out from $40+ per day to $5-$8 and I reckon it will get lower the longer I am in the program ?
I don't think it matters whether your in AdSense or YPN, they both seem to plummet the more your with them.
I now don't worry or look aniousxly at my stats like I did, and have lost the fears of getting banned, the excitement has left........

Wow I have a really different experience... I had always wanted to run 50/50 but it seems its always a huge difference either way for me. So now I run a 95/5 system and just monitor incase I get a cpm targeter on either ;) Then I adjust throughout the day depending on what is paying more.

Shoemoney may i ask you how you switch between different ads so fast?
This system sounds really good to me.

For me, Yahoo far exceeds Adsense on almost everything. I keep testing (going back to adsense for a short period) and every time I end up loosing money. Yahoo has consistently delivered more than adsense every time, even with their whacked out targeting!
Yes, I too am curious how you can track stats daily for Yahoo!

I am glad there is an alternative, like YPN out there. For me, the YPN earnings were great, back in October. Now, they are like Adsense.
However,
on some pages Adsense works well, and others YPN works better.
So, it gives you more options for optimizing web pages.

Can you use them both at the same time? Or is there a rule like, i cant have both on same page (i believe it causes errors with crawlers). So i guess a switch would be better, like control it with scripting, once show google ads, once show yahoo ads.

That was true for me also the first few weeks, then my EPC plummeted just like it did when 'smart pricing' hit AdSense, now my YPC earnings are only slightly higher then what AdSense's was.
Here is what happened: The first two - three weeks of Nov, 13 clicks on YPN ads would on average earn me $25.00
After around Nov 23 or so, 13 clicks earned me on average $15
Now in Dec 13 clicks on average earns me $7.00 (Will it get less and less ?)
It's the same as 'smart pricing' did with Adsense

Hmm, i hope that is not the case for ypn also. I hate smart pricing. I am frustrated to see high earnings in a day and seeing them drop while i did nothing to the site, keeping the same visitors and impressions. :(

Hi shoe, may i know the percentage of your adsense and YPN income? Just for some comparison....
Currently I am running 90% ypn and 5% adsense and 5% various cpm affiliates.
YPN is just paying that much more for me in my area. The only reason I run any adsense at all is because if 1 day (insert fortune 500 company here) desicides to cpm target my domain I can see that and then increase the exposure of adsense on my site(s).
I change a lot of course depending on the market.

Shoemoney could you please tell us how you can switch between adsense and YPN on a moments notice.
What kind of system do you use for this?
If you don't mind me asking;)

A simple php include would work or something like phpadsnew. Nothing complicated or new there.

yea I actually dont use phpadsnew cause its way way way overkill for this. However if you dont know php its the easiest.

For me YPN was terrible. Very few clicks due to extremely poor targetting and also there is the fact that they still don't pay for non-US traffic yet. In that aspect they are just as bad as Chitika.

A weird thing... I get 1/4th the CTR with ypn... the ads are not targeted.. yet they pay 3x better CPM.. weird eh?
I guess that old overture money most really be there.

Thanks shoe for the information, currently I only put adsense in my sites. Think I will try YPN in mine... Once again, thanks..:p

I'm getting good relevance with YPN. CTR is a bit lower, but not much. There are a pretty decent # of advertisers in my niches and my sites are very well-defined, however. I'm happy :)

Maybe this is obvious, but what about replacing Adsense with YPN on pages with low CTR? I just got my YPN and am anxious to try, but hoping for some guidance by the pros who have been running both.
My main site has very high CTR on some pages and very low on others. Mostly the same Adsense ads appearing on most pages. Other pages it doesn't seem to matter what I do I can't shake the PSAs, so those seem obvious YPN candidates.
