Sorry guys if this is a newbie question but I am indeed a newbie in SEO, link building and such.

I just check my site through iWebtool Backlink checker and it shows a nasty result for my http://site.com domain and it shows the proper backlinks pointing to my www.site.com

The nasty sites are linking to me via Google News that it has at the bottom of the pages.

Please take a look at the backlink result by iWebtool (http://www.iwebtool.com/backlink_checker?domain=diet-meals-recipes.com)

This is the proper backlink for my www (http://www.iwebtool.com/backlink_checker?domain=www.diet-meals-recipes.com)

Are those links very harmful to my site? What should I do? Which data that Google will use to determine the backlinks to my site?

Thanks in advance

As long as you don't link to them, you are safe.

The only thing you can do is email the webmaster of that site. However, i doubt he will do anything

Don't worry about it. But you should make it clear to google which site you want to use: www.somethingorother or somethingorother.com. You can do this in google webmaster tools. Any new links you get should go to the one you picked.

You have nothing to worry about.
Most probably Google will just ignore these links.

You should not worry about who all links to you. Just make sure you get enough links from quality sites. Simply keep in mind not to link to any nasty sites. As long as you do this, you are safe

You should be fine there. You are getting free links. Just don't give them anything back.

If you feel strongly about them linking to your website then contact them and request that they remove all links to your site with immediate effect.

I agree with the consensus here,
you can't worry about low page rank site linking to you so long as you dont link back. I've never discovered the impact of lots of PR0 links into your site I'm guesing eventually they will increase your PR

I have had a similar issue with people taking articles off ezinearticles with my links in them (and many other authors) and splattering them all over revolting sites.

Other than issuing a copyright violation for breaching the article terms not a lot you can do :-(

Take care

Paul

Well I don't mind PR0 sites linking to me but the domains are nasty like http://viagra-etiso.info something like that. Well I checked their sites and they don't have any visible contact info.

Thanks for the reply guys!

I agree that it's not worth worrying too much about one way links to your site that you can't control. But I would definitely follow the advice above re the splitting of your page reputation between the www and non-www versions of your site. You can easily fix this to go the way you prefer with a short bit of code in .htaccess
