YaWho?

I've seen many posts that comment "we rank high in Google, but not in Yahoo", etc.
Could it be that Yahoo feels that in order to be of value, it's results must be different than Google's results? Afterall, why would internet users need Yahoo if their results were very similar to Google's results. It seems logical that to avoid this thought process, Yahoo is trying too hard to make itself have different results than Google.
I say "too hard" because Yahoo's results are frequently poor, that is to say, the results they provide are not as relevant as Googles.
My focus currently is on website selling lingerie. If you search for "lingerie" in Google you receive entirely different results than Yahoo. The results are so different, that it seems almost obvious that Yahoo is clearly differntiating its results from those of Google.
Has anyone seen a clear overlap, that is similar, of results between Google and Yahoo?
For "lingerie", Yahoo seems to use human editors to grab the obvious, commercial brand names like Victoria's Secret, Agent Provacateur and Frederick's of Hollywood and place these first. Then, they select the domain name with the precise search term, then list some popular brand names of lingerie, then some less than optimal e-commerce sites.
I say less than optimal e-commerce sites because the next few listings offer a limited selection, that is, these sites are not nearly as thorough in their product offering (brands, selection, styles, etc.) as other websites.
I'd be very interested to hear from those with Yahoo algorythm (did I spell that correctly?) insights. As well as from those webmasters who have been able to have their websites rank very well on both Google and Yahoo.
