I tried submitting my website however, it seems to take them years before they even look at my submission.
Anyone has any idea of how long it would take to get a website submitted the free way?
In case they don't accept you, is there any email you receive from them telling you so? Is there any email from them in case you do get accepted?

Use the paid option for fater review. Free listing may take sometime before you hear from them. ;)

But even if you earn 100 dollars a month from adsense, you recover the cost in 3 months :).. No business gives such a return eh. Create a JUNK celeb site.. get a few free directory links and ONE YAHOO link and u recover the same in 3 month... what say?

I never tried to submit my sites on yahoo directory.
My thinking: Google and yahoo are competitors. Google owning most of the search quires searched on the net. So page rank is essential for the traffic.
I dont think that google will index all the pages on yahoo directory. But I never did any site search for yahoo on google.
So wastage of time submitting on yahoo directory.

You will probably just have to pay the fee to get listed. I've personally never submitted any of my sites to yahoo's directory and $299 is way to much for any 1 year directory listing.

I'm not trying to trick google or make a quick buck from Adsense. I'm more in for the longterm.
Also, the site i want to submit is mostly done for the visitors, low CTR for adsense and targeted ads rarely being served. So I barely get any money from adsense, although I do get enough to cover the bandwidth costs.

That is little high for a normal site, I mean the money. About 300$.

You can go in the backdoor of Yahoo.
What I mean is: find expired domains that are already in Yahoo's dir.
Of course, this means that you might not get the category you want but then again it's just $7 not $299. And you get a guaranteed spot in Yahoo:)
I own several Yahoo-listed domains acquired this way.

My words are taken.
I just search in google with the query: "site:dir.yahoo.com" and the result is little surprise to me:
Results 1 - 10 of about 2,000,000 from dir.yahoo.com
So the best way to increase the site's rank is to submit your site to yahoo directory.

Well after doing a little annalyzing I found some pretty inetresting information.
I checked out the category my site would fall in, and believe me it's a very small category. Something like 7 out of the 10 sites were ranked in the top 10 of Yahoo for my target keyword.
I think I know where my next investment is going :)

I know there has to be another way. I'm not paying to be listed. I have a few Yahoo links and I don't know how exactly I got them, but I will find the 'free' way. I know people!! :D

I find that if you submit a site for free it takes about 3 months and if you submit for $299 you get listed in about a day. Guess it depends on what sort of site it is as to whether you pay the money or not.
You'll end up with links from dir.com dir.co.uk dir.de dir.in etc.

So it looks like the best thing to do after registering your site is submit it to Yahoo, do your own SEO, and check back in 3 months. By what I read so far I don't see the need or benefit to paying them $299 for inclusion.

This all depends on your niche. Being top 10 in yahoo for 3 months is more than worth the money in most niches. Also there is a much higher chance of being accepted if you pay; especially if your site is nothing special.

I agree. I paid to have my site included in the Yahoo directory and it took more than 1 month before it got included.

There are only one option - to pay - for almost all business and many other niches as simply there are no free submission available.
If you go with free submission, I guess you get approved when your kids turn 12 or 14 or something (assuming they are not yet born) ;)

NOT Really, lol but they take some months to listen that OR simply better to improve your sites.... like dmoz usually love Nonprofit organization sites.. don't put affiliates or any ads until they wont accepted their list ( likewise you should wait 6ix months atleast, thats where we need a pateince until we can update the sites, make a linkbuilding etc etc.. ). once they approved you can play with search engine :D

For what it's worth; I remember reading an article that said one of google's founders said there are two directories that hold the most ground with google. Those two are yahoo and botw (http://botw.org/). This could have been fake, but at the same time it could have been the truth. I know when I paid the 300$ for the directory spot my traffic increased dramatically. I ranked higher in yahoo and google within days. I gained 5x revenue for a period of 6 months. After that my ranks dropped and I was back to normal again. In that time though I was making 11-15k a month so the 300$ was well worth it. I know every site is different though, so it's really up to you.

I got my site in the Yahoo Directory for free a couple of years ago. It took a few months, and my site wasn't really monetized at the time. So, I think it is possible to get listed for free - it just depends on how long you're prepared to wait.
When I got listed, I followed the steps laid out in an article I read on the Net about how to get listed for free in the Yahoo Directory. Can't remember now who wrote the article, or where I found it.
If you really don't want to pay, why not do a search for similar articles and see if they give you any ideas.

299$ to be listed in a directory is thievery, but if it really boost your business you should maybe do it. for my part i am sure i won't, i prefer to get indexed in yahoo indirectly by yahoo crawlers following links from a third website.

I've heard of yahoo listings hurting people's ranks in the past - because an editor sets your title and description. This is why I don't do it because I already rank very strongly on Yahoo.
As recently as 4 months ago people were submitting their links to the yahoo directory for free via .uk.
I also remember rumours at least a year ago that some of the strongest yahoo directories like .com had external noindex directives.
$299/year would be a bargain for a yahoo directory link if not for the potential pitfalls. If you have a keyword - in - url type of site then I think it is worth it.

I'm going to submit my site with a credit card that expires at the end of the year. Hopefully they'll be lazy and not remove my listing after a year. I think it is worth it just to put two keywords in the anchor text.

Hi,
Just submit your link in specific category which is colligated to your website. Its must to check your link go on that particular category. If you didn’t get submit on that category continue submit on that directory. And keep on eye shot in yahoo directory whether your site is submitted. :)
