According to the Wordtracker results available from the DP Keyword Suggestion Tool (http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/?keywords=top+10+web+hosting&country=us) (on this site) the phrase "top 10 web hosting" (without the quotes) only gets approx. 13.0/day searches.
This may explain the delimma. ;)

I had the same thing when I started... I picked the perfect keyword (in my dreams) and finished #1 on Yahoo and #3 on MSN - (#N/A on google) and got no visitors at all...
Well, later after learning more I discovered that my perfect keyword was searched an avarage of 2.0/day  no wonder...

After studying a competitor site I made a few title tweaks. One of my sites should be top 5 on MSN search soon. (once it gets re-cached). I'll watch awstats and let you know what traffic does. Overture's data says its a reasonably searched term (1,195.4 /day) - but how that will hold up in MSN I dont know.

Why does it matter if your keywords aren't working for you. Use a keyword research tool and choose the best keywords to optimize for. The amount of time will depend on the difficulty of the term you are optimizing for and what your budget is.

guys you have to target real search terms
like terms that get > 80,000 searches a month
It next to impossible to get enough little terms in msn to get good traffic

Yeah you got to be careful when targetting keywords. You have to ask yourself why would someone search for top 10 web hosting". And the answer is they wouldn't.

The one that gets over 80,000 searches will be already taken up by your leading competitors. Narrow down your niche a little and you'll get more traffic.

Dude, the whole point of this thread is that little terms don't drive traffic in msn did you totally miss what we are talking about?
You have to target competitive terms in msn or you won't get enought traffic to make it worth it.
will be already taken up by your leading competitors.
The whole point is to beat your competitors, no concede to them

To research how many time somethings searched use
http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/
Find one with lots of searches a day. Around 5,000 for yahoo a day.
Next search the term on google and on the top right, see how many results its found. I'd only pursue it if you see less than 200,000 results.
Thats my 2 cents, anyone can tell me if this is smart? Thanks

optimizing for 4 to five keywords for each page is good. Specifically ones that that can add up to more traffic as a total. Same strategy for some other pages on your site, so you can cover more key phrases. Good luck.

My site MeAlex.com (http://www.mealex.com) comes up #1 and #2 on some search engines. Then again, I am most likely the only person in the world searching for term "mealex".
My point - anyone can get ranked highly for unsearched terms. Now if MeAlex.com was showing up #1 in SERPs for "alex" that would be something.

heh,
I've just found out that my site is number one in MSN for the top keyword in my niche and the traffic? Only some 10-20 referrals from MSN :(
Google gives me much more traffic for other less important keywords..

loyalmart.com?
You actually link to that site in your signature as it SCREAMS MFA??
Not once, but twice...and both tags have nothing to do with the page, uhhh....content?
The first one states Free Link Exchange. Where the hell is that on the site?
The only links out are through Adsense.
What the hell are you offering on that page?
