That's strange, but also I hear a lot of people rank well in Google and MSN but not Yahoo...
For me it's the opposite, I don't even rank in the top 1000 for Google. But for Yahoo I'm 56 :S

Yahoo is different than google and msn. Google and MSN do not count as many links as Yahoo. I have 4 times as many links in yahoo as I do google and MSN put together. Yahoo just uses a different method of crawling and ranking search results.

If I ever find an answer I will post it here. We are showing up 1-5 in google for a couple terms. But for the same terms we don't even hit the top 100 in yahoo? Any moderators have any ideas?

As far as off page factors are concerned I think yahoo still has a big skew to sites listed in the directory. I have a site listed there that got supercharged on yahoo after listing in the directory.
As far as on site factors are concerned, they definitely judge dynamics like keyword density, title tags etc differently to google.
Having said all that - I'd rather show on google than yahoo.

Yahoo, is very strange SE. Gives a huge # of landing pages in its SERPs. I once started a thread in DP to share seo techiques for Yahoo - but very few people replied - cause few know how to da that...

We rank #2 , 7, 11 for our top terms but 100's back in yahoo. Onpage title keywords, density all good. Would a yahoo sitemap or the yahoo directory submission really help much? Any other ideas?

I would sugest to search on Google for "seo for yahoo" - there's a good article, published on few websites, that covers this topic very good.
Author talks there about four major factors for Yahoo:
Keyword density
Site structure
Backlinks
Aging
I think this will be very useful.

My main site is 25 on Yahoo for the company name (it is 1 on google and msn) and only the home page is indexed.
I emailed their support they said they didn't know what the problem was and that they would contact me if they figured it out which they will never do.
I can't figure out why. Its been like this for several years.

I'm right there with iron chimp. Yahoo likes me, google doesnt... except google has far more indexed pages than yahoo. MSN doesnt do either.
I see some references to 'aging' how big a factor is this? and how long does a site need to 'age' before the SE's care?

OK, I finally made it to Yahoo; After three months, my Fun Crochet site is number two on Yahoo- it was number two on Google within a week of being live. I am noticing my other sites are just starting to show up in the top ten of Yahoo too. My guess,
Yahoo is really slow!
Wow!

I have the same problem. For a very competitive phrase, I rank #1 on MSN, #8 on Google but only #51 on Yahoo. I only have my phrase 3 times in my body text, perhaps I should add it a couple more times? I don't know.

Every Search engine Follows DIFFERENT Algorithm. Just read this points below and evaluate your site:
1.Yahoo puts much relevance on QUANTITY of BL's.
2.Yahoo places much more emphasis on EXACT keywords throught your content and on your DOMAIN name.
3.Have strong base on ON-PAGE optimization factors along with some backlink support.
4. Get your site listed on the Yahoo Directory. Submit your site to Yahoo Sitemaps.
Hope this helps:) Btw, did you optimize your site with good SEO Techniques?

It would be interesting to see what site you are talking about, how old it is and what you have done to promote.
Other than that, all I could possibly say is be Patient - there's a keyword for thought!

My site ranks very high for my competitive keywords in yahoo ie on first page of the results whereas in google it is on 3rd or 4th page.
So I need to know, what extra I need to do for Google :)

Google and MSN don't show as many links when you use the link: function but it's unlikely that google being a link based search engine doesn't count them :)
I think that yahoo rewards more 'unnatural' link profiles - i.e. it seems to be less concerned by the quality and relevance of links than google.
Yahoo results are definitely still skewed to sites that are listed in yahoo directory. So depending on the site it may well be worth paying the $299 in order to increase your profile on yahoo.
In any event - if you are ranking well in Google I wouldn't get overly concerned.

they're all different (the se's)..try changing some of your text around..A site optimized and doing well in Google doesn't mean it's optimized nicely enough to place well in yahoo.

Age is VERY important to Yahoo... more than any of the other search engines. If your site is a newer site that could definately be the reason why you are buried in Yahoo.
