Good credit card payment processor

Hey all,

If it's been discussed here before, I'd appreciate a link to the specific thread. The forum search did not turn up anything I was hoping to find.

What service (besides PayPal) do you use to accept online credit card payments? Any good/bad experiences? I am mostly looking to accept payment from US-based clients

I vote with 2Checkout, while your starting off, shop around when the time comes to worry about how much your paying in transaction fee's.

Good advice here, guys. I casually looked into 2checkout but was put off by a lot of negative reviews on alexa/amazon.

So you never had problems with 2co personally?

Are you looking for a 3rd party processor, or an actual payment processor?

A 3rd party processor is a company like paypal, 2checkout, ikobo, etc. Otherwise you would look for a traditional merchant account. A merchant account will be more involved getting setup but IMO is a solid long term solution whereas a 3rd party processing solution geared for short term. Also, a merchant account will normally cost less than a 3rd party processor, provided that your business has sufficient transaction volume. Generally I would say that if you process over $1000 / month, a merchant account will be cheaper. A merchant account can be integrated into a website so that your visitor never leaves the site. Only a few 3rd party processors allow this.

What I would recommend for online merchants, would be processing through FDMS or Nova, and using Authorize.net as your payment gateway.

Not yet, support is good, communication is good, anti-fraud system seems to be in healthy shape. Reports are wide and varied and easy to install buttons for checkout. Direct credit to your account. Pretty damn cool system.

but i have to say that they are sometimes overly strict regarding fraud. i have had some known and good customers rejected when they perform payment.

I'd say that's a good thing though.

this depends on the fraud level - if you have minor one - go with the one which can remove fraud checks for your products, or you'll start loosing valid orders which will cost you much more than the processor discount rate.

I just signed up with Loud Commerce (http://www.loudcommerce.com) and using the LinkPoint gateway. They were extremely helpful and gave me a test store to help get the connectivity before I was approved. Once I was approved, it was very simple to add my account. I had a couple of questions and they even helped me out, something that most agents don't normally do.

We chose them because they use Cardservice and Cardservice is owned by First Data. I was going a pretty large volume ($150,000 by the year is out) and they were able to get me 2.04%. I think they will try to get you 2.19% if you are not doing that much through some of their promotions.

With you being in the United States James, you have tons of options available to yu. I would consider a third party solution only if you are not going to be doing much volume or you do not to accept credit cards for some extended periods of time.
