Hey everyone,

Got a bit of a question for everyone to debate over - How much difference does a PR8 link make to your site????

Depends on how many links to other sites that are already on that page. If there's only a few I bet it could get you PR0-4 alone with no other backlinks.

Also depending on whether Google lets PR points pass from that backlink ;)

Don't assume all backlinks help you raise PR, nor SERP rankings.

if there is low outgoing links on that web site, it will boost your page rank and serp

Here is the deal with backlinks. If you have a PR8 site linking to you and it received that high PR for lets say, keyword Timbuktu. Well, if you get a link from the PR8 site and your site has to do with Power Tools, well that PR8 site isn't going to do you a darn bit of good. It has to be a site that has a high PR for keywords on your site. Otherwise you are wasting your time.

Better look at yahoo to find your indexed backlinks. Google is pretty shy about it.

PR8 site, even if non revelant will help you boost your PR, relevant is just an added bonus.

Maybe a little bit, but nothing like it would if you were in the same niche.

I think everyone should read the following:

Hilltop Report (http://ftp.cs.toronto.edu/pub/reports/csrg/405/hilltop.html)
Here is a wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilltop_algorithm) entry for it as well.

yes i already tested it in yahoo that returns 97 inlinks. Actually the major problem is, the backlink from a PR6 site was showing up on google search but not now like for a month. Is there something I can do about it or just *stare*
any help or personal experience like this would be appreciated

A PR 8 site with few outgoing links would definitely boost your pagerank and if its relevant then you would be more benefited b'coz the SE rankings will also improve.

wouldn't worry about page rank worry about serps - a pr8 relevant link works wonders. Page rank, smage spank - it's only a green bar!

Getting a link from PR8 site will definitely help in boosting the PR of the site. But, how do you get a link from a PR8 site? Kind to share?

Actually google frowns on paying for inbound link. The only question is how they detect and enforce paid inbound links. And it is also a thin line between listing on a directory (by paying) and paying someone to have an inbound link embedded in some content.

Until google has a way to differentiate this, I guess there is still a huge market for paid links.

Until google has a way to differentiate this, I guess there is still a huge market for paid links.

Directory links are generally categorised, and once the links go up they stay up.

Paid links are generally not thematically related, in a cluster of 10 or so and change on a monthly basis.

Think about it, if a webmaster awards a link soley on merit due to good content he's not really going to change it on a monthly basis. Combine this with another 9 or 14 links in a cluster that also change on a frequent basis hardly signifies a collection of links that are there on merit alone.

Add to this them all being tucked in the footer, or together in the sidebar it's alot easier to see how Google can devalue 90% of paid link schemes.

Also the thin line between a paid directory link and paid regular link is, the directory charges for the time/effort to review a link for inclusion. So you are not paying for the link but rather the review process.

As time goes on alot of directories will be devalued and made basically worthless. As it is now, how many directories come up in the top 10 for a search query? Basically none, including DMOZ's PR8 and other similar authority directories.

If that PR8 page has only one outgoing link on it which is your link, then you will get a PR8 on next update.

It is just your imagination to detect paid links. Google robots are not that much smart like a human ;)

Do you know much about algorithms? Can you remember every page on the web and list the top 10,000 when i ask you a term?

You cant be serious if you think when the current document version is different then the cache version, and the changes are a grouping of hyperlinks Google wont know. Especially when the core of Google search revolves around hyperlinks from document A to document B.

Really, please tell me your post was a joke?

I think a PR8 link from a reputable site can boost SERPS quite a bit.
