I have a website that is #1 position on MSN but does very poorly on Yahoo.

Does anyone have any advise for doing well on Yahoo? What does Yahoo like to look for that is different than MSN?

Speaking about my experience, more easy is to get top positions on MSN.
How competition going on Yahoo? Also, beware, maybe you drop from MSN soon.

I sugest to work more on meta tags and image alt attribs for Y.

I have noticed that MSN likes a higher KW density than Yahoo does. Optimizing for Yahoo could cost you rankings in MSN but Yahoo does produce more traffic.

I strongly sugest to work more on meta tags to do well in Yahoo. I have very good ranking for of my main keywords in both Yahoo & MSN. Proper descriptions, keywords, etc will help. Good Luck

Does Yahoo uses the Meta Tag Index? I thought no search engines use this anymore?

im quite surprised to hear a few people talking about Yahoo and meta tags, I didn't think they were given much if any importance anymore. does anyone have any more thoughts on this?

I have seen some sites ranked #1 without even having a meta description tag.

I have always followed the prevailing forum and article advice on optimizing for Google. I don't give a moment's thought to MSN or Yahoo. The results are interesting.

I just compared my current #1-5 SERPs results for my mostly noncompetitive keywords (a few are competitive). The results:

KWs/phrases ranking #1-5 on:

Google: 12
MSN: 14
Yahoo: 6

It's perhaps an oversimplification (maybe not?), but what I see here is that SEO that works for Google works for MSN, but doesn't always work for Yahoo. Is anyone else finding that to be true?

can you say for sure that you actually know how to make a site # 1 in MSN, what are the rules to follow. I think that both MSN and Yahoo are under the changes of their algorithm. may be next year we shall know.

I strongly disagree MSN produces strict us based traffic to your site, while yahoo bigger in number of visitors it delivers, the country wide spread is so big. if you need only american traffic for your CTR on adsense, MSN is much hiegher quality

I was talking about overall traffic not the click through rate of adsense.

Although it is slower than MSN, Yahoo does eventually respond to good old fashioned links with appropriate anchor text.

I have the same experience and to be honest have never tried to get yahoo placement or learn anything about what they look for up until the september update I was getting tons of traffic from google and then it totally dried up. I'm ranked #1 for both my main site and a subdomain on MSN for the keywords I always pushed with google but now that it's dead and no one seems to really know what's causing it (though duplicate content which I have none of seems to be the prvailing wisdom) I need to try and get somewhere with yahoo.

I would appreciate any recommendations of where I should go or what I should read to find out about what yahoo wants.
