php kit help

I am newbie to php. I have a php kit from mediaplazza .Instructions given were to alter some details in config file and simply upload the kit to my root folder. I have done that but nothing renders on my url. Excuse my ignorance but do I need to set up a database?? I contacted mediaplazza with ftp details but they have not offered any assistance. Anyone got any ideas where I can get help on this.

If it's a config file with database info(login/pass etc), then yes, you usually do need to create the database first. (I've never used that script so I may be wrong though :))
