Well, I gave Chitika a try this week and I must say I am impressed. Basically, this is just an echo of what other people have said...
I placed a chitika ad on a single spot on my site, but it was the prime ad spot. Adsense was still in 2 other spots.
While I had 400% more clicks on the adsense ads (basically the chitika had a low ctr), I ended up earning almost the exact same amount from both ads.
I just wonder how long this can last? I guess we are getting almost 100% of the money from the chitika ads? If not, why the hell are people paying so much for these clicks... anywho. If it lasts, I will definitely be sticking with chitika.
I'm also going to try out their referral program and see how that works out. So if you haven't signed up for chitika yet, use my link. You lose nothing and I get a little something for telling you about them. Good Karma both ways. www.chitika.com (https://chitika.com/mm_overview.php)

Yes you can. Just make sure that the chitika ads are running in non-contextual mode (which they are by default).

I've been running them a few weeks now and have been pretty impressed. It doesn't out perform Adsense but is a nice addition.

I wonder why the CTR seems so much lower. My AS/Chitika CTR ratio is about 6:1.
In my niche the payout is about the same but Chitika often has ads for pages that Google doesn't. In terms of gross revenue Google is 4X.
The advent of competition should improve Google's payouts to publishers. But whether that will makes its way down the long tail is a totally different question.

the CTR is very low on my sites against adsense.
Nearly 10x lower on a site that is laptops ipod ect.
but the amount earned is about 4x adsense.
Well worth sticking ads on;)

What kind of sites do they accept? I signed up under a content site and was denied, today. Are they looking for store sites?

Weird.. I'd go over the TOS and see if you missed anything.. then write to customer service and ask for a review.

That is weird... I don't have any store sites and had no problem getting in. Might try your luck again.
I have enjoyed Chitika so far because there are some spots where it just makes more sense to use than adsense, for example. I think it can work well with adsense in conjunction. I think I only replaced one adsense ad on one of my sites, and my total revenue is up significantly since adding chitika. So I am really happy with the results.

No offense but you might want to submit a better designed site? I think professionalism is a criteria many consider, it might help if the site looked more professional.

Just curious... where does it way we can't use referral links? Seeing as how they are all over the board, I figured they were okay. Anyway, thanks for all the bad rep guys.

I can only echo the comments above, whilst Adsense consistently has 4x the clicks of Chitika the earnings were pretty much the same.
If Chitika sort their adverts out (allow a bit more customistation, better targetting) and generally make them a look a bit nicer (bit nasty with the fading in images etc) they could do really well.
I will drop adsense completely on the site in question if the targetting gets better, that is the reason for reduced CTR in my opinion

Not sure I understand the better targetting point. I can pick a product by name and have it show up in an ad. I don't think you can get any better targetting than that.

Nope, many of use have been told by Google directly that it is okay... as long as the other ads are non-contextual.

I signed up with my site that sells software I make, such as databases etc, and got the rejection email.
I signed up again a couple days later using my site on Cryptozoology, with stuff about Bigfoot, Nessie, Mothman, etc..... and got accepted
so who really knows what they want ? lol

Do you guys have the mini malls (chitika) ads rotate through a bunch of keywords for each site you put the code on, or just one keyword per ad depending on that page or site ?
Do you de-activate or keep the 'search' feature active ?
Des
Oct 30th 2005, 2:51 pm
If you are using Google Adsense on your website it's adviced to turn the search feature in Chitika off... Because of possible interference with the Google TOS...
My ads point at a single keyword. And I noticed they products change quite frequent. I had an 'Ipod Mini' ad on the other day, then it started showing a lot less attractive Ipod mini cover instead of the ipod, but changing the keywords to 'Ipod Mini 4GB' did the trick... And this is just a simple example. You can target litteraly any product in their database...

I rotate ads by using different keywords.
I disabled the Search feature.
I want to add my experience so far with Chitika yester day was the worst day 7 clicks worth of $.99 with 5000 Impression the CTR is Definetly low.
Clothes,Under garnments, Fashion Magzine ADs are Low Paying.
Gadgets, Laptops, Mobile Phones etc ADs are high Paying.
What you judge so far from the earnings which Ads are paying more and which are Less.
I also write a blog Entry for this if any one want to read PM me.
I dont want that people will consider it spam.

CTR is definatly lower, mostly because Chitika still has a bit of an banner feel to it, it clearly looks like an ad, unless your background is white and you blend it in really well... But hopefully this will change soon!

I am glad to see Chitika though, it really eases a lot of fears, if one gets bans for some reason from AdSense, at least we got one program that seems pretty good to fall back on, I am still waiting though for YPN. But I think even with the 'smart pricing' curse etc, I may just stick with AdSense.... for now anyway :)

I use all 3 programs (Adsense, YPN and Chitika). Haven't really got enough stats on Chitika yet, but I like how it adds content to my site (pictures, comparison shopping, etc).
I'll post more when I get more stats from them.

That already changed. You can set background colors.
It can look like tabbed navigation. The main problem is that nobody saw the format coming so most sites aren't designed to integrate it well. We have to fit it in as best we can.

Well I've accumulated my first few days of Chitika stats. Nothing to brag about. I took the approach of keeping them away from my G and YPN ads (but on the same page). I replaced some static banners with Chitika. Added a nice touch of content/products to my site.
Probably making around 20% of what I make with G and YPN. But it is 20% that I did not have before, and it doesn't seem to negatively affect my CTR of my other ads. So i'll probably keep it up for rest of the month and see how it goes.

I'm seeing quite a few questions here about using eMinimalls - I've written a tips page that has been endorsed by Chitika and have posted it here (http://www.problogger.net/archives/2005/10/14/chitika-eminimall-tips/). Hope it helps some of you who have signed up with them.
Everyone is still in learning mode about how to use them best - but I know of quite a few people who are making serious money from them so far - hope more of us can join them in that! :-)
