Hi Everybody

I am looking for some honest reviews/critics for Singapore Travel Guide (http://www.singaporetravelguide.net/).

Any ideas towards improvements. What is good, what is not good would really help.

I also plan to add a small directory of businesses in Dubai added to the site as well.

Let me know.

Thanks All.

Hi,

I am a Singaporean... It think the site looks good:)

The only thing i don't really like is the colour of the background... But this may just be a personal preference. I will much prefer a more striking background.

Content wise, i think it is useful and easy to navigate.

Just my 2 cents.

Pretty nice design, everything looks well organized :) And you also have great ad placement. For the header, I'm not a huge fan of the photograph.. it looks a bit low quality. I would look for a really high quality photograph for your header (try istockphoto)

Why did you choose Singapore? Why not Thailand, Indonesia or Malaysia.

Well, we travelled to Singapore, and we liked the place, so thought of creating a site around it. We created one for Dubai (http://www.dubaitravelguide.org), and we are in the middle to create one for HongKong & Malaysia. I have been to Indonesia, but might as well create a site for it :).

Well, I sort of agree. But lesser blue made it look not so good.

The site looks good. I suggest you to change the balloons
(right_nav_heading_bg.gif, center_nav_heading_bg.gif etc. )

You also could change the background. Nice and clean site so far.

Very clean and organized website.
What is your goal in doing it?

How do you monetize your site?

Nice looking site, I spent a few years there as well in my youth!

Suggestions:
1) The picture does look a bit low quality as others mentioned
2) Change the background color to something brighter, the theme feels too dark
3) The text is too squished
4) especially the top right adsense block in your middle column, put some padding on it
5) the front page, you've further split up the middle column into 2 sub columns, with real estate, hotels, etc... too squished again, you're better off having them take up the whole column

hope that helps!

Hi Marie, thanks for the comments. Well, we created the site because we went to Singapore on a fun trip earlier this year (March 2007) and liked the place, so thought about creating a site about it.

As far as monetizing is concerned, adsense, hotel affiliate links, other direct banner advertisements (I am being contacted already), and some text links should pay off.

Nice looking site, I spent a few years there as well in my youth!

1) The picture does look a bit low quality as others mentioned

Wow, that's a lot of suggestions/improvements. First of all, THANKS A LOT for all your time for the review of the site and then your post. I really appreciate it. I will pass these on to the designer and get these things worked on. The input really helps.

Hey man.

I'm pretty impressed by the layout. Seems like you did a good job.
In fact I'm half German Half Asian, currently living in singapore, for 13 years already.

The information is good too; the only thing some people could hold against you is that its to generic/general. Although i think it gives a good read.

In addition you could add popular things like "Nightlife", "Transportation" and etc.

Well if you need any detailed info, i'm sure i can tell you or the least link you to things.

All the best to your site man. Good job!

Hello gerritpoel, thanks a lot for your time. I would certainly love to get any info you maybe able to provide including articles or links etc and I will have the team work on the Nighlife and Transportation section. I think most people use the MTR for transportation, right ? We went to Santosa Island, and I remember it was a quick ride from Vivo City on Santosa Express, taking us right to the beach.

Hi,

I have visited Singapore many times and loved it. Looks good but I would reccomened to add more hotels. As you have only got a few. And add something about the MRT way better than the London Underground. Going to Sentosa I used the cabel car thats a good way to get there.

Hey back!

Gerrit will do :)

Transportation
Well, yes as far as public transport is concerned people travel either via:
- Taxi (Comfort, CityCab or SMRT Cabs)
- Buses (SBS, Translink)
- MRT (Mass Rapid Transit)

More About Transportation in Singapore (http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/en/home/getting_around/transportation.html)

Nightlife
Popular Nightlife places are at Clark quay, Mohamad Sultan, Orchard Road, Sentosa etc. There people hang out, drink a couple of beers, club, party and so on.

More About Nightlife in Singapore (http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/en/home/what_to_do/nightlife_in_singapore.html)

You should do some research on the places i have just mentioned or holla back if you need more from me. The links should be pretty useful.

You can always check here "Visit Singapore" (http://www.visitsingapore.com) for more detailed information.
I am pretty sure they have all the information you need, since its the official Page supported by Singapore Tourism Board.

Sentosa is definitly one of the main attactions on the island. I recall going there a few times hanging out at the beach quite a along time ago. I was truly amazed by it when i first set foot on this tropical island.

An interesting fact is to experience how West and East coexist.
Hope your site goes will. Just let me know if you are unsure about anything.
I might also have some pictures of the Bird Park, Zoo or so. I can look into my Folders if you'd like.

Good luck! :)

Oh another thing:

Under the Tab "Singapore Used Cars" it says:
"Singapore is a big city with a huge population of 470,688 people", Make sure that people dont mistake this for the island poplation which currently stands at 4,483,900.

By saying that you could possible add a Page about Singapore's Geography, if you dont have one yet. (more of facts) like:

Population: 4,483,900
Size: 704.0 km²
Lanuages: English Mandarin Chinese Tamil Malay
Currency: Singapore Dollars (SGD)
ETC

I got that from WIKI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore)

Or even something about their history if it appeals to you!

Well those are just some ideas i had, heh!

Alright then!

Thanks a lot Gerrit. That is indeed helpful. I will get to work on these things. I missed the Cable Ride to Santosa Island. Maybe next time, I will use the Cable Car instead :). I am sure my kids would love it as well.

Very useful guide to follow. Categories are really well maintained.
Actually I am planning to visit Singapore this year. Hope to cover all the places discussed in the site.
