Is there any negative impact of domain names that contain "-" for example:

herbs-wholesale
nokia-mobile etc

or should we keep the domain simple example:

herbswholesale
nokiamobile etc

I've seen many discussions about this and each time it's only come own to personal choice. I've owned many domains with and without '-' and have never had a problem. You could have any old domain name and as long as you marketed it properly you'd have success.

Personally, I hate "-"s. They just drive me crazy. But its your own personal preference that matters.

Even one character more increase the possibility of typos
So if someone is going to remember you name make it as short as possible
In other words am against dashes but sometime are necessary

I own one with a - and I actually get the most traffic from the serps and clicks.
Its all about the individual preferences.

A - is generally considered to represent a space so when researching think about the words you want to target. SERPs will take account of words that make up one domain without - in them but this may not be as effective as using the words separately. Of course the toss up is will your clients remember to add the - when they see you in an advert etc...

Adding dash(es) between words has a big impact on SERPs. Typo is not a case because most of the internet traffic come from SE's and browser bookmarks. Of course it has negative impact if the domain has only 1 word.

In my opinion, - helps SE rankings. I told it before. It may also boost earnings from a keyword targeted affiliate program like Adsense. Because - means a space between keywords of a domain. So, each words of a domain can be determined exactly and can be targeted excellent.

it really depends on the domain

if your friend asks what your site is, will you say

- "my site is 'mine dash website dot com'"
or
- "my site is minewebsite.com with a dash after mine"

without a dash makes it easier to share it to other people, imho.
