Anyone know of a free tool that will do the above. Open source maybe or something simple and free.

Funny you should ask. I just needed to do that myself. :)

It's not free, but the trial allowed me to use it enough to get done what I needed to do:

I actually develop a program that does that. It's not free, though, but there's a fully functional 15-day trial. www.autoimager.com if interested.
