View Full Version : EasyPhotoshopCS3.com - The Final Contest! Glass Me Up!!

Hello Again Everyone!

This maybe the final contest for EasyPhotoshopCS3.com! :D

Please see:

http://www.easyphotoshopcs3.com

This competition is all about glass effects.

I'd like the header & footer graphics to be turned into glass...Shiny, Reflective Glass

...So shiny that you'd be worried about leaving fingerprints if you touched the screen!

All the site graphics etc can be downloaded from here:

www.easyphotoshopcs3.com/easyps.rar (http://www.easyphotoshopcs3.com/easyps.rar)

...please work from the PSD.

If you can also somehow 'glassify' the other buttons on the site (i.e. the home, about, news, categories, archives, meta etc) without breaking the page, that would be considered one heck of a bonus, but is not strictly necessary.

The final graphics should fit well with the colours & layout of the site, and any graphics that you 'glass up' for me need to be saved in the same format and size as they are on the site (I also need the PSD version).

$30 to the winner, and I'm looking for a quick turnaround, please can we make this a 24 hour contest!

Reps and feedback for everyone who enters - as always!

Cheers,
Steve

I have completed my entry, please check your Inbox for the image. Thanks!

this seems simple enough, why not have your previous designer to add glass effect?

Sorry folks! This isn't because I want to keep the design concept ideas to myself, it is just because I want to remain professional. I am glad it seems you are all taking a liking to my artwork. For that, I am honoured.

You can't insists on that for long, you will get lectured very soon by the higher ups. Trust me, I've been there, done that. I just got scolded a few days back for doing the very same thing you are doing today. And I'm giving this advise early to you. ;)

I don't understand what you are implying.

I had sent my design via. P.M, so the client can view the design in the original size, instead of the 50% preview via. my preview template. Because the document is so large, it wouldn't fit on my preview template, neither would it look as effective at 50%.

I want to keep my all my work protected.

There's just like an unwritten protocol around the forum that states you should post your work in the thread - it's not just me or mitcharr, it's most people wanting it :) Keeps it fair and stuff, ya know?

Oh I understand that preference for designers, but as it is, this is my first P.M submission and I have a valid reason.

it would be fair to post here so we know the design if you are the winner....if everyone would send on pm, then how can we know if the contest holder ain't cheating with this thread so he can get Itrade

Why does it seems I now HAVE to post here to sustain peace within my entry. I will post if I am the winner. I also assure that I do not know Steve Fullman or are familiar with his website.

Cipixxx, steve is a honest contest holder. Offering a contest have a lot of benefits.

1) Can choose from different concepts.
2) Reputation and link building
and more

Scarlet Edition, posting your design here can build up your reputation and maybe you can get paid orders from other webmasters. Anyway, it is up to you.

Hi again all,

Well, it's obviously been an interesting few hours since I last checked in, and I'd like to address some of the comments raised here.

First off, and I hope this doesn't sound too selfish, but I'm holding a contest here, I didn't start this thread to discuss the do's and don'ts of contest etiquette :)

Thanks for the PM, Scarlet Edition - It's a pretty good first go, and reps added - although it doesn't look as 'glassy' as I was hoping for. I think, to avoid this thread drifting totally off topic, that you should post a low-res version of your entry for the others to see. As DaveyBoy says, it's kind of an unwritten rule.

this seems simple enough, why not have your previous designer to add glass effect?

Thanks, I realise this is a simple enough effect, and that it won't challenge your creativity too much. However, it's my money to spend! And I actually think that making the graphics look realistically like glass is quite tricky. The realism is the design brief in this contest...remember this from the original post:

"I'd like the header & footer graphics to be turned into glass...Shiny, Reflective Glass

...So shiny that you'd be worried about leaving fingerprints if you touched the screen!"

Thanks for your entry as well, warpser, reps added :) Again, it has a glass like effect, but isn't totally convincing yet. Perhaps the graphics need a bevel to make the effect stand out more?

Now for the one which really upset me...

it would be fair to post here so we know the design if you are the winner....if everyone would send on pm, then how can we know if the contest holder ain't cheating with this thread so he can get Itrade

Cipixxx, mate, I can assure you I'm not cheating. This is my 5th contest now in the past month or so.

Here are the other 4 -

Logo Contest (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=295213) - $30 prize (Winner: Fidel_Castro)

Site Design (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=301931) - $75 prize (Winner: rupertValentino)

Web Page Graphics and Layout (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=312409) - $100 prize, plus free videos for every entrant (Winner: Tropica)

Blog Design (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=319899) - $50 prize (Winner: zinruss)

That's a total of $255 in prize money, given to 4 different and respected designers.

If I wanted iTrader, there are cheaper ways of getting it!

I have always tried to conduct my contests with honesty and integrity, I've always added reps, I've always given feedback, and I've always been a fast payer.

To suggest I may be in cahoots with someone to cheat the other talented people in this board out of 30 bucks is highly insulting.

...OK, deep breath. Rant over.

Cipixxx, steve is a honest contest holder

Thanks, Roger! Very nice of you to stick up for me :)

A-L_E-X - Thanks for your entry, reps added! Again, a nice idea, which can be improved by making the graphics look more realistically glass looking.

Sorry this has been such a long post, if you've got this far thanks for reading! I hope to see some more revisions/entries soon!

All the best,
Steve

That's cool,

I hope i didn't upset you,
I was just wondering if you had asked your previous designer if they could do it. You know, to save yourself some money. But you are right, it's your money. I have no problem with that.
I stick with the person i'm working with till they are happy with it, dunno if others do.

is that a pop at the other designers? (yet again?)

the previous contests have been concluded with steve happy with the designs, and to his specification, this glass effect wasn't in the plan for the previous competitions.

Also having worked with steve in his competitions you couldn't actually find a more honest competition holder.

So just be quiet, enter if you must and keep your constant complaints to yourself.

Sorry for the thread hijack steve :)

LOL?!

Wow, sorry your still mad Tropica.
It's kinda obvious. Mabey you should try PM'ing me instead. We have already gone through this, please pay attention Tropica.

I'm not attacking anyone, nor did i say anything bad about steve. I know and have seen his contests, which are great, and I realize he's honest.
All i was saying is that why not ASK the previous designer to modify it, if possible. That way he might save some money? If the designer doesn't want to, then so be it.
But whatever happened, which i don't know, it's his choice.

Please allow me to share my opinion. Steve is a honest webmaster. I believe the main reason he posted several contests here are

1) for link buiding.
2) seeking for alternative. Usually create a contest can get more ideas and concept, much better than using the same designer. Off course, the fee will be higher.

Hmmm dunno why you quoted me as I did not say or imply Steve was not honest. Dunno where you guys are getting that from...

2: I agree, all i did was ask if he had asked the designer. That's all i did.
I'm sure there are reasons for it, but of which i don't know. So i'm sure Steve made his decision on what was best for him.

Hi everyone,

Well...not the good natured contest I was hoping for lol!

Tropica - thanks for fighting my corner, mate! It's really appreciated :)

warpser - Sorry, dude. You seem to have come under a bit of fire here! I don't know if there's any history or bad blood, but, all you did was ask a simple question...so here's the answer:

I didn't ask either of the 2 previous designers (Tropica & zinruss) because I thought that would be taking the pee. Both those guys worked really hard to earn their wins, and I was super happy with the end results. Although this work could be considered a 'tweak', I felt it was fairer to open up a new contest. I expect to pay for changing my mind!

Thanks to zinruss, dumaniac and Istvan for your entries, and everyone else who revised their entries! Reps added :) for the great efforts. The lens flare was a really nice idea!

(I'm sorry that some of you couldn't open the psd??? Could you download it ok? Perhaps it's because it was saved in CS3?)

There was one entry that stood out more than the others, and it's time to call an end to this contest...so I'd like to say congratulations to:

coolwanz :D

Well done, mate! The effect looks great, exactly what I was hoping for!

Please send me your PayPal details, and I'll send the cash straight away.

Thanks to everyone who took part, and I hope this contest hasn't put any of you off from working with me again in the future. It's been...weird!

Cheers,
Steve
