PR = Google Page Rank.

The higher your page rank relative to other pages, the higher your page would show up on the SERPs.

This question has been done to death - you could've at least Google'd it first! Or searched these forums. :D

Higher Page Rank doesn't mean that you can have better rankings in Search Engine. Rankings would depends on your optimization.

You better read this:
http://www.googlepageranks.net/pagerank/
Or what the guys says is:
Introduction

Google runs on a unique combination of advanced hardware and software. The speed you experience can be attributed in part to the efficiency of our search algorithm and partly to the thousands of low cost PC’s Google networked together to create a superfast search engine.
PageRank Explained
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B............
You can check page rank from here: www.googlepageranks.net/
With 2 words: The google page rank is very important for getting your website in the top of the google results.(depending on some keywords). It's an algorythm... that returns an integer.. The higher page rank your web page have is the better.
For example: http://www.googlepageranks.net/pagerank/check_page_rank.cgi?url=google.com
The results is: google has 10 of 10 ;)

Yeah, but google doesn't even rank itself number one for the terms:
search
search engine
search the web
web search
internet search engine
website search
etc.
etc.

Other search engines with lower PR rank higher for these terms. So no offense, but, I gotta assume nobody here really knows the actual answer to the famous PR question.

Especially considering you got 50% saying it doesn't help SERP's and 50% saying it does. It's there for some reason, however, so I also gotta assume that it does help. Although it seems to be a miniscule amount. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'll admit, I don't know.

It's basically ranking a website by Google... how good and relevant... is the site and many other factors too... like link popurality, relevance, theme... content and all

No. It depends on the Latent Semantic Indexing algorithm Google is using. If your site contains related words to the keywords you want to optimize, then your site can have a chance to outrank the one with higher PR. PR just affects the number of times the Google spider crawls your site and the amount of advertising fee you can charge your advertisers.

They dont care because the people that are looking for those terms are using google at that moment... lol so obviously they are not looking for google.com. Plus googles page title is google lol

For SERPs, PR is not a factor in raising your site's SE rankings. Just use it for selling links, or link exchanges. :)

I think PR is just a tools to show the quality of the site's content. they use it as a vote to that site. so if you got good content , more people will link back to you. But people believe and use in in the commercial way. so that's what it is now. ^^
