Yahoo! may just have flagged your IP as using automated queries and has temporarily blocked your use of their search.

I am not running anything that could cause that.

I know this problem very well even its appearing from last 3 months .

Basically what is the funda with this when some people try to search more and more and yahoo then yahoo get disconnected for sometime and it give this error because the program of yahoo thinks that its a spam or virus who is searching on yahoo .

So thats why this problem occurs i have faces this problem many time like if you are using any software to generate the rankign reports then this problem certainly occurs ... so dont take bother from this problem your yahoo will be working after some time .

Or you should contatc your Service Provider or administrator....

It means you were using yahoo too much. And Yahoo has temporary blocked you to access their services.

Yes automatic queries are one big reason for this. If too many queries are generated from a specific IP .. the ip gets 999 error sometime. :D

Must be a good news for Google. :D

It won't affect Google at all. They do not need Yahoo! converts. Maybe in certain markets yes, but in most places of the world, there will be no need for Google to get some Y charity

Yahoo gets more than 50% of their traffic from their email system. Most people don't realize that this is still the number one usage of the Internet (even if 2/3 is spam now).

For the past week yahoo has been very very slow for me. I'm not surprised by this at all.

I check yahoo daily and I've never seen these types of issues. It's as if they have a bunch of servers running close to capacity.

I thought I was the only one having problems !

Is there a reason to use Yahoo at all? Their search sucks, their email sucks, and their portal is bloated and crappy.

Runner,

It's not working for me too. I don't even go there. So might be my IP is blacklisted because of some other user or Yahoo is having problem!

Here is my yahoo as of now.

I've been trying to load new.yahoo.com for over 3 minutes now. I'm on a 3 megabit cable connection.

This is amazing.

Yahoo has been working fine for me. However, overture has been timing out alllll over the place for the last week or so. Does overture include yahoo searches too? Or is it just Google?

Overture has always been slow to me. A cople of weeks ago I send an email to the local yahoo advertising contact where I live and told them that I would stop advertising with yahoo and spend my $50000 other places because of the slow overture tool. (I have never advertised with them of course), but they got very nervous and wanted me to stay, but I just said no. Hehe, thats how I have fun these days. I must get a life soon.

The 999 error is caused because of a blocked IP, here is a good summary:
