How often does the base weight get updated?

Right now it's *roughly* every 48 hours... It was automatic, but was having a few issues with that, so right now it's initiated manually (which is why it's roughly) so I can watch it to make sure there are no issues with the revalidation. So will probably keep it like that for another week or two just to keep an eye on it. If all goes well, it will go back to completely automated (every 48 hours).

The above quoted post was on 08-14-2004.
It has been one month. Is it automated now to 48 hours?

he's said that there is no limit on overall weight (or limit on base weight), but there IS an limit on the increase you'll get solely from having a lot of pages- but the other elements of the formula aren't capped

Actually there is a cap. I have reached it on a few sites that have no "PR" as have others. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2915

if you read what he said there, he said just what I said above- your weight isn't capped, it's just that the total number of pages part of the formula is capped.

Righto... the weight is not capped, but the pages within the domain contributing to that weight is.

I'm guessing he wouldn't be willing to tell you that (and he said he changes it, based on the total weight of the network). you shouldn't be making pages just to do well in the network

Well, I've mentioned before that I really don't want to get into disclosing specifics of the weighting formulas because it starts to open it up for people trying to beat the system. :)

Sorry Disgust, for whatever reason I read your post as saying there were no caps on the elements of the algo. I have to stop waking up at 4am. :)

Why doesn't traffic come into play at all? Just curious.

Because it's not a "you show 10 ads to users, and I show 10 ads to users" type of network.

So it's more meant as an anchor text, PR, backlink type of network, then, eh?

I would assume yes, as the ads being displayed (at least in vBulletin forums) will very rarely be seen by an actual human.
