Is it worth it? I have tried submitting the free way on and off over 9 years. Never made it in. Would paying the 300 get me any legit increase in traffic? Does anyone actually use directories anymore?

There are a lot of things to consider. A couple that come to mind are... How far from the homepage is the category you are submitting to and how many other sites are on that page.

I have a site that I submitted to a category that is only 2 clicks away from the directory home page and only has 11 other site in it.

Within a week it shot from page 50 to page 2. So it was obviously a good decision for that site.

But I think that it should be taken on a case by case basis.

This is a good article that may help you.

Hope that helps.

Can any one link me to the Directory?

What do you mean? Do you want a link to the directory? If so, then it is here http://dir.yahoo.com

Or are you looking for someone to submit your site to it?

For me its just an way to find an edge over other sites. Site I am thinking of doing it for is http://volvopeed.com into the directory seen here:
http://dir.yahoo.com/Recreation/Automotive/Makes_and_Models/Volvo/

Its several clicks in but there are only 24 other sites.
Justt an an indicator http://www.smartpagerank.com/result.php?domain=http%3A%2F%2Fvolvospeed.com

Was just thinking of it as one more feather in the hat. I have been building sites for well over 12 years. Just never done much with directories as I have always done fine with search and back linking. Any additional input?

Hi Haimrg,
I think Yahoo have dropped the free submission:

Yahoo has dropped the ability for sites to submit for free to the commercial portion of its directory.

Sites wishing to be listed within the "Shopping and Services" or "Business to Business" areas of the web guide must now use Yahoo's $199 "Business Express" service. A free submission option remains for those submitting to other areas of the Yahoo.com site or to regional commercial areas at Yahoo's non-US editions.

Yahoo becomes the second major directory to limit its free submission option. LookSmart made a much more expansive move earlier this year, requiring all commercial sites to pay a submission fee. In contrast, Yahoo's remaining free submission option remains much more liberal, still available in vast portions of the guide.

I was looking to use their paid submission for commercial sites has anyone had good results by using them.

I have been in the Yahoo directory for 7 years and don't have to pay (grandady rights). If I had a new site there is no way that I would waste my money on the Yahoo directoy

Do you mean Google? Their directory is a dmoz clone. Yahoo's is not.

Check your junk folder for the mail. Perhaps it went into there. I'd contact yahoo after 10 days about this. If they don't list you, get money back.

When i have the extra cash i may submit to the directory. Or just wait it out and see if DMOZ add's my site. Prolly take a year for them to do this. lol

It says 7 business days which work out to 9-11 days barring a holiday. I paid on 04/25 and received an email saying I was in on 05/03 and my site would appear in 2-4 more additional days.

Why wouldn't multiple relevant backlinks from within Yahoo help?

Unfortunately there is no refund if you don't get in.
