I'm toying with an idea...and was curious...
How much would you pay for a text link spot (above the fold in a prominent placement) that rotates with between 50 and 100 links?
Explain your pick if you'd like, and please if you pick no explain why.

Only if there was traffic and a no-follow on it. I really don't like rotating links, for SEO reasons.

On average about 250 uniques a day (soon to increase :D)

It would have to be primarily for click through reasons and not for SEO. If it got clicks then I would pay. Probably not much though if there are 100 other links in rotation.

Can't vote because you missed my option.
I would not pay but instead ask your for money if you want my link rotationg in your site since I would consider you would benefit with my pagerank everytime you display it

If you rotated only 5 links, and all of them were mine.. that might be a wonderful idea =)

It can work if there are guaranteed clicks otherwise there is no real value.

Maybe if the site was in a 5,000+ uniques a day, but other than that no. A rotating text link is just a smaller, less noticeable banner ad. For SEO purposes it's worthless, so the only thing that would redeem it would be high traffic + low cost.

Thanks for the info jquindlen :)
Guess I'll have to go grab 5000 people a day then as again :D

Rotating links are not good for SEO
And for seo you buy links not for traffic (mostly times)

Of course people would pay.
However it should be considered an advertisement (for traffic) and properly no-followed as mdvaldosta already mentioned.
Same as putting your banner on some other website in some rotation.
Basically payment would be calculated according to the number of impressions and not fixed per monthly basis.
If the site were on topic and the link in a prominent location I would certainly have no trouble paying $1 CPM (if only one link is shown at a time). So if my link shows 10k times per month thats $10.

I don't get it. Many people said they would pay for it.
I would also pay for a TV commercial if I'd think it would bring me a certain amount of visitors, even though its worthless for SEO.

the majority of people said they wouldn't pay for it...
and at the moment...calculating what some people said they'd be willing to buy one...i'd make more money if i just sold regular links

Ok, say you got 250 uniques per day... and 100 links rotating on a page: that averages out to be 2.5 unique page views per day, 75 per month.
Obviously it won't work out quite like that, but just go with me for a sec...
If you get that 5k uniques per day, with 100 links, that's 50 uniques per day - 1500 per month.
I can see people paying for 1.5k uniques per month, but not for 75. If you got the 5k daily visitors I would probably pay about $15-40 dollars per month.... depending on how targeted the traffic was.
If the traffic is very highly targeted and pre-qualified.... and it converts at 20% (lol) then I would pay you about $2k per month :)

so you'd pay 15-40 per month for 5,000 but not .75(1)-$2 for 250?...works out to be the same thing...
though i could also set it up to have like 10 links, that pull from a pool of a couple hundred...
I figured this wouldn't sound very good with such low traffic...but when traffic increases...at least to 5K a day...most people would find it a more attractive offer you think?

Sure - more traffic = more attention.
Yep, I would pay $40 per month... if you get 5k uniques.... AND they are laser targeted AND convert on my sales page at 20% ;)

Only for traffic ... Matt Cutts style links :) ... the site selling the link would need thousands of hits per day and be sending meaningful traffic my way for me to keep paying for the link!

How much would you pay? (On average per 1000 hits)

For short term traffic, its cool. But then, 50 is too much unless each takes turn about every other 10 minutes. I especially like rotating ads that will display your link with every other search.

I would, however only if the site had a lot of traffic (enough to ensure the link was actually shown :P)

would that be a couple thousand a day to you? (that's what a few other people have said)...

Rotating? No.. very unstable and it isn't good for SEO. Rotating would only work great to image ads -> exposure and branding of logo.

could you possibly explain your reasoning? Same as everyone else?
now...what if there was 5000 hits per day?...worth it then?
