I am wondering if anyone knows whether the MSN search engine still picks up new links from existing site directories as it crawls the net?
Does anyone have any recent experience with this?
Or has MSN now limited it's site search listings to paid inclusions & existing results only for its search results?
Thanks for any insight :o

It seems to pick up new stuff... This forum is in MSN, and never submitted the URL, paid for inclusion or anything. And it's only been up a little more than a month.

According to Bruce Clay's Search Engine Relationship Chart (http://www.bruceclay.com/searchenginerelationshipchart.htm) MSN is using results from Inktomi and Looksmart.
Inktomi still has a public spider that will find you page eventually without paid inclusion.

i get daily MSN spider visits
and even an increase with the new msnbot/0.11
last months 1155 visits - until now it looks same quantity and as referrer is around position 24 on my site.
i also still use VERY frequently the MSN FREE submit page . ..
but
sometimes that page is switched OFF for hours or half days - the missing page then links to a purely paid inclusions page ...
then next day its ON again ... just liek the sun - comes and goes
and
many know it - the silicon valley OS has some problems ..
:)
the FREE submit is for max 5 pages per domain
but
how to count ot 5 - THAT is an art God never counts -- may be MSN is getting angel like ... or is learning variations of 5-count ..
or @ silicon valley apparently unknown to a few at least ? or a bug in that OS .. :)
if free submit is ON - i submit and submit page by page
and the bot sometimes comes within seconds of a few minutes to visit the NEW pages .. page by page .. i usually can NOT observe deep crawling - but crawling single pages at a time - a few per run - like G - up to a dozen or so at once
when i submit
and submit ... after about 6-12 pages it has reached a count of 5 pages then the
Sorry, only 5 submissions per root domain are allowed per day.
comes
today seconds ago it was only 6 or 7 pages
yesterday about 12 pages :-)
before yesterday free submit was OFF .. and only commercialla full paid page ON ..
use it
if you are IN the db @ MSN - its free and i can NEVER imagine that ever they dump an updated db when changing their system - it simply takes TOOO long and tooo many $ to create a full www db such as Google's

i never thought of someone NOT knowing the free submit URL from MSN
but i guess some may never have found it - as it is well hidden in another domain from MSN
i got it many years ago from a service i use
http://www.selfpromotion.com specialized in optimized semi automated SE submission
here the free MSN submit URL - just in case someone misses it
http: // submitit . bcentral . com / msnsubmit . htm (just remove the s p a c e s )
these very minutes again its OFF and links to paid inclusion - that happens more or less every day for a few hours or half day. just try every few hours - every day
as long as it works ... during the past weeks it always worked at least a few hours per day or every other day ...
its a MANY year old service !! but may be gone one day ...
use it as long as you have a chance
the bot sometimes comes within minutes !!!

MSN still picks up new links. A few weeks ago my new camping supply site was crawled by MSN and I'm somehow on page 1 for camping supplies. I haven't focused any effort on the engine, so it did manage to find me regardless.
