I bit the bullet and paid for a yahoo listing 6 days ago. It wound up being cheaper than buying links elsewhere, so I figured I'd give it a shot, I'll let you know how it goes (I'm still PR0 and never get more than 230 visits a day)

Though not better as DMOZ, I think it is worth the money. Higher PR will help you a lot in the SEO, and also will bring you some traffic.
However you shall take the risk that you spend out $299 without getting your website indexed.

I'm sure if you submit a quality site they will index you.
