View Full Version : Ever used email marketing for affiliate advertising?

I've been looking into renting opt-in lists to mail affiliate advertising. Doubleclick's #s estimate about a 34% open rate, an 8% click rate from that, and a 4% sale rate from that. Based on these #s I can't understand why everyone isn't doing this. I think it's safe to say that the company I'm expecting to go with, provided the references check out, is not a scam. Given that, does it work or am I about to waste my hard earned cash?
Who has tried this? What are the cons and what kind of success rates (%s, if you can) did you achieve?

Well,
I've now had the opportunity to use 2 companies on 3 occasions.
The first I rented a double opt-in list from Sunwest group or sunwestgroup.com. Julie Cook was the person I dealt with but I've since heard that that may not even be her real name. She and her company are a TOTAL SCAM and I got ripped off for $750. She never delivered any tracking at all, and promised a refund that never showed. Ultimately, I filed a complaint with the FBI internet fraud div., but I don't know of any results. I'm as sure as I can be that she never sent the emails.
The 2nd company was Expedite email marketing. Anthony Drudi is my contact there. He seems like a pretty good guy. Another guy, Joe, once answered my call and told me a list would cost twice! what Anthony told me. So I'm not sure everyone there is on the up-and-up. The first time I sent 500,000 double-opt-ins and like a fool did not set up any means to track results. They provide tracking, but I can't say whether or not it actually converted to any sales.
I have since used them again, and this time tracked the results. The click-through rates varied pretty dramatically between their numbers and mine. I showed 150+ click throughs and they showed 1500+. Not sure what that's aabout. And finally, I did not make ANY sales from this camaign. Whether Expedite offers any make-good campaigns for this is yet to be determined.
Draw your own conclusions.

I would be interested to know anyone else's comments on this subject...
MBHT your last post was quite informative! Sunwestgroup's website screams scam at me...
The big companies in this business are "Optin Real Big" (VERY expensive)...

Aweber and Constant Contact seem to be the industry leaders in email marketing, but I'm not sure if they do affiliate marketing campaigns.

Aweber is for newsletters not for mass mailing etc.
