This exact question has been asked and answered many times. You can do a search to see the many different opinions. The short answer, yahoo directory isn't usually going to produce a lot of traffic, but it should help you in rankings with yahoo and google.

Google and other search engines place a lot of trust in Yahoo's Directory which results in high and quick page rank.

If you are established and want a boost. SURE.
If not. NO - spend it on other things.
I'm in the Yahoo Dir and I get minimal traffic from it. It's just good for PR and of course Page Strength as SeoMoz takes it into consideration with Wiki & Dmoz.

why one should pay this much money. ????????????
It works out to about $25/monthly. I have read posts like this and some people say it worked for them, others thought it was a waste of money. My site is 3 years old and it does okay in G & Msn but Yahoo, terrible rankings so last week I paid the $299. I will update in a few weeks to see if getting in the directory increased my position in the serps.

Yahoo use the yahoo directory listing title and description of your homepage in their results, you can actually lose traffic because of that, homepage wise anyway.

Can you explain how you would lose traffic? I got an email my site was excepted, and it would show up in the directory in 2-4 days. It didn't say what the title, and description was.

Yahoo directory doesn't allow keyword title and description in your submission. Since in most cases yahoo search pulls the data from your directory listing, your page in the search results won't show up as it does in your meta description (with keywords in title etc) it will just show up as your sitename. The title tag is an important part of ranking, which is how you could lose rankings for that page, i have anyway.

because the newest thing is charging exorbitant amounts of money just to get somewhat noticed on the internet

I did this a while ago. I made a thread on it that tracked my progress. At first it was amazing I shot all the way up to #4 with a keyword that has 30,000,000 results. I stayed there for about 2-3 weeks bringing in a total of about 50,000 uniques. That was back when I had ypn which was making like 1,000-1,500 a day =). After the 3 weeks was up though I started to fall back down. I didn't change anything on my site or anything I just fell for no reason. I'm now like #100 and no one ever finds my site. They also change your title and description and you have no way to change it back. Instead of having an informative title it just shows your domain name. All in all it was worth it for me because of ypn paying so well. If you have adsense and you're not making a decent amount per click I wouldn't do it if I was you. It also was no help for my google rank it still stayed the same. Hope this post helps a little.

Its not exorbitant at all, $25/month for a quality link and you also end up with links from other yahoo directory country specific pages. The only downside is yahoo still haven't developed a tag to stop them using your directory details in the search results.

I think that instead of investing in YAHOO Directory right away, it's best to start buying high PR links from good websites and not only directories. This way, you get a link back, you get traffic and your offpage optimization becomes stronger.
Yahoo does not send a lot of traffic any way, better invest it in sites doing well on Google. You'll get thrice the better result from Google than you would with Yahoo

no, it isn't
if your site is good, it will be in there naturally.
and with the 299 price, that is per year ;)
like the first poster said, this has been asked a number of time.
next time, use the search feature.

I might have helped my pr but I had like 6,000 inbound links already and I was a pr-6 at the time so I'm not sure if it helped it or not. The next pr update I dropped to a pr-5 though.

Buy 10 good related links on PR websites for $ 30 each

I experienced the same. The description they used did not come close to the desciption of my site. It was as if someone did a 30 second view of the site. They also placed my site in a category different than one requested and buried in a category with hundreds of submissions.

Are you listed in regional categories such as uk.dir.yahoo.com as well? If so these are one page so you your listing wont be buried. In the main category your listing will move up as it gets more traffic.
