View Full Version : Alexa rank 98,444

Over the last week, Google Analytics says that I've had Visits: 1,343 Pageviews: 9,320. Is that all it takes to break the 100,000 mark on Alexa?
http://www.occultcorpus.com/
I have the searchstatus (http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus) tool bar installed and an Alexa widget on the main page. I swear to the gods I did not inflate my traffic by any other means (for one I can't afford it). So that is really enough to break such a milestone?
Am I reading something wrong?

Hey, be glad. For some of us getting our Alexa numbers down takes an extraordinary amount of work. Likely, most of your visitors of late have the Alexa toolbar installed, thus the big drop.
Alexa is titled toward SEO people, so if your site touches on the topic, then that explains it.

I didn't hear of Alexa till I found this place (Join Date: Jan 19th 2007) at which point I downloaded the Alexa toolbar for my IE7, and then the toolbar I mentioned above for FireFox. I've had consistent drops since that time.
My site topic is Occult & Esoteric discussion, which is a niche to be sure...especially among all you tech people ;)
Maybe I should start a poll on my site, heh, it would be odd if Occultists rivaled SEOers for Alexa use (lol)
Either way, I'm almost impressed with my site, 6 month old (almost 7) & already one of the "big boys" (if you're willing to count the Alexa 100,000 in there).

Other option is to use the Search Status Plugin for Firefox .. does the Alexa bits and shows you Google PR while it's at it too

I am using Live Pagerank Firefox Add-on to check on PR while browsing a website, used to have another one which included Alexa checker, too. Now just limited to PR checker, gives less hassle at the end of the day ;)

What made lose your ranking? It's currently showing " Traffic Rank for modernforums.com: 229,866 (http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?q=&url=www.modernforums.com) "
I must say though, your Pakistan rating is excelent: 2,153

The toolbar I linked to in the first post can go to the right of the menu (where there is wasted space). It's really worth checking out as it shows related links, google PR, and has other nice options, and is out of the way.

It takes time to update you can see the 1 Wk Average rating!

Yes, it was 68,689. You're talking about the size of your rooster and hens but you're eggs have not even hatched yet.
Are you inflating your ratings, or are you catering to the modern needs of Croatia and Pakistan?

Yes, but the current score on my site is from tool bars and the alexa badge on my main page. I've not falsely inflated my traffic by any other means. I've seen other threads which seem to say that one needs thousands of hits daily in order to this while my Analytics and Awstats both say I'm not even getting that monthly.

Depends on the type of crowd your website draws. Even though you may recieve thousands of visitors, if ur crowd is the geeky type and dont have Alexa toolbar installed, ull stll have a low rank

There is a mod somewhere that reports every visitor through an exploit in alexa's system.. so it makes it appear that everyone that visits your website has the toolbar.

I'm not asking how to beat the system, I'm asking how am I beating it. I've got a rating that is seemingly hard to get. One that should take MANY more hits then I am getting. I am either proof the system is completely out of whack, or I am a prime business model to base your own pages on *boggle*

I'm not exploiting the system, and am now at 94,930. I do have the toolbar installed, and I do have the badge on my main page, but neither should be considered exploits as they are offered by Alexa.
It seems that Occultists and SEO'ers have more in common then I thought... Alexa
Maybe it's my sig from here. It's certainly out of place among all the directory, host, and SEO links. *shrug*

It's not that hard. My site (http://www.cheapseoservices.com/offers/) has an Alexa of 78,647 with a PR0. Mind you, it's getting around 450 uniques a day.

Ahh, then the few other threads that were talking about needing thousands daily to break into the top 100,000 were seemingly talking though their ...
This would explain why I'm in the list with just over 200 visits daily.
I wonder what would happen if I did bloat or sway my numbers by unethical means... *breaks into the top 500*
Thanks for your input, comparing numbers with others certainly helps ease the confusion I was having...though in a way you've also burst my bubble ;)

with an alexa rank of around 40'000 tendency dropping despite steadily increasing generic traffic, i have some 49k pages / d and despite s solid increase the past 6 months got an alexa drop by some 10'000
but then
i looked yesterday ...
the very same period - around last xmas time - also DP forum started to have a drop in alexa ( and earlier last year, around 2nd quarter 2006 DP almost instantly jumped from a top500 to a top 100 within a day or so - a fact that is technically impossible unless ads in CNN or similar have been placed )
hence there might be other issues at allexa contributing to even less accurate results than ever before

I'm now at 85,903 so I guess I'm doing something right...or heh, something is doing something right *boggle*
And seemingly in three months!
Traffic Rank for occultcorpus.com: 85,903 (http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?q=&url=http://occultcorpus.com) (up 6,263,581)
In the US I'm coming in at 15,541!
Honestly, if I can get into the top 100,000 then I see no reason why the DP can't be in the top 500 (or even top 100!). Seemingly all it takes is an admin with the Alexa toolbar & the "ranking badge" on the main page of the site.
I have less then three hundred members, 120 active members and look what DP has (heh, it's got three times my total member base logged in!

I've gotten less then 3,000 uniques this month according to Google Analytics and dropped to 81,865 yesterday... it would seem that a few of those visitors do use Alexa (which is a surprise to me).
I've ran through a few of the other occult and pagan sites I'm a member of and checked their ratings. Most are less then 200,000 so it would seem that Asians, webmasters, and magickians are the three main markets :D
I think I'll write an article about it to add in the "other market" that no one hears about *smirk*
Then again, heh, maybe it's magick ;)
As a side note, the forum on my site has jumped from a PR2 to a PR3 so I am getting a bit more popular.
