View Full Version : Directory Owners - Would This Help You?

For the DP posting directory owners out there, would it be helpful for me to identify myself as a DP member when submitting to your directory? My simple idea for this:
Since most directories request an email address, how about I use an email alias like digitalpoint@<mywebsite>.com and use that when submitting. Would that be an easy way for you to see that, "hey, a DP member is submitting, let's make sure this gets listed"? Of course, the alias would be a forward to a real address.

You can use any email account you like, but it's still all about the content of the website that's being submitted to the directories.

Yes yes of course. Duh (sorry, couldn't resist). Just seeking an quick identify alterntative to replying to every 'new directory' thread here with "just submitted mine", etc.

Why do you need to identify/confirm, just submit. There's no preferential treatment going on unless specifically stated on the directory. I'd imagine all submissions are treated equally (unless obvious spam) so no point in notifying any of us.

Ok. I don't run any directories, but I have to think that tacking referrals from your 'new directory' posts would be helpful (like tracking referrals for most anything else is good data to have). Then again, maybe not so I certainly won't worry about it. Thanks, off to another topic.

IMO I don't believe people will create an email account suggested as in your first post. Directory owners will see in their stats people are comming from a dp thread and you don't have to reply to all those threads that you submitted your website to a certain web directory.

I do a quick copy/paste for urls in forums to an existing browser window, so DP would not show in your rererrer logs for me. Maybe I'm the only one. Eh, question answered, won't really help you guys.

My directory informs the submitter via email when the site is included or rejected... if you don't have a valid email address, I'd probably delete the listing.

But for most site owners there is a catchall email address (ie catchall-spam) and then specific accounts are opened.
So, on one of my domains I hold the catchall and I don't have to do a thing to create a new email address - and infact I do, so that Outlook can enforce rules and move my emails about.
I have a property investment directory (http://www.pcpropertymanager.com/wsnlinks/) and on the site submit form I have custom field to enter your forum id from an associated forum and I can check on their reputation there. The name doesn't get shown on my master list so it doesn't fast track the site but it does help when I'm editing them!

Actually, catchall addresses aren't a great idea, unless you love spam and lots of it...

I think the original question has been answered. But to clarify for minstrel, as noted in the original post, the email would be a forward, so it would be a valid email and not bounce.

Actually, catchall addresses aren't a great idea, unless you love spam and lots of it... :eek:or have users who can't spell and you still want their business/emails...

I suppose... my solution is to have prominent "contact" buttons in the nav headers so they don't have to spell. With no catachall, I avoid all the spam that goes to sales@, info@, etc., etc.
