Sorry if this sounds stupid, but I am new at this. Have downloaded a website design program, Serif, but saw info about Drupal and think it will fill my needs, want to have forms and such on my site. My problem is I have no idea how it works, does it work through the web design program or independently? I am still on windows 98...stop laughing!!! HELP!!! May need to get new system? Do I have to have a site up on a server to apply Drupal or can I build a site with it? Thanks in advance Que

I am starting to understand that, so it works only along with a program? Have been on the internet all day looking for info on this.

drupal is an open source content management platform,
You can find more at their official site http://drupal.org/

It doesn't need a program.
You just need to install it on your webserver and everything else is completely web based.
I guess you will only be able to work with the premade free templates because creating new templates is not that easy.

So, I must have a site already on a server? So my first step should be to register my site with a server is that correct?
thanks for the help

Yes. You should register a domain, and have a host.
And once you have hosting, you should upload Drupal and follow the instruction on how to install it.
Once installed, you'll have an administrator panel, where you can manage your site.

One more question, can I do this with windows98? Drupal site is not very clear and it seems I must have a newer version of windows.

It doesn't have anything to do with your windows.
It is a Web Based script.

Which means you can usa web based host and upload your drupal files via ftp and then install it on your hosting server.
Here is a good hosting to start off with.

Thank you, I think I'm starting to get it. Have a long way to go though, freehostia does look like the type of place to start. I am sure I will be back with more questions.
