View Full Version : My first month with YPN

So August was my first full month with YPN.

On the channels/pages I switched from adsense to YPN averaged out to 35% more revenue with YPN then with adsense across the board.

I tested on multiple niche sites and I only noticed 1 niche that was lower. I saw up to 80% increase in revenue increases using YPN on some niche sites. Its clear to me that I will need to test and adjust accourdingly.

No wonder you were flogging your Google Yo-Yo's. ;)

Things are going to get interesting, especially if the majority of folks making reasonable money with AdSense start claiming they're earning a whole lot more over at Yahoo.

It makes me wonder if smaller publishers are (or will start to) subsidize some kind of 'Stay with us' incentive increase in the cut the larger publishers may or may end up getting.

Just a thought, that's all.

Thing is, Yahoo those have an ad inventory the size of Google's (I think). So once the YPN fills up and advertisers' daily budgets get spent faster and faster, you'll see more and more PSA's.

Maybe Yahoo can lease ads from Google somehow :)

I just got approved and threw the ads up on a few sites. Should be interested to see how September goes

One thing I love about YPN is if you have a quesiton/comment or whatever you can just call them up.... I have never had to wait more then 2 mins to talk to someone...

And they speak English?

Wow!

I have had such amazingly horrible experiences with Google AdSense "Support".

I would switch for 10% less revenue.

Alas, unless I am missing something obvious, I cannot sign-up yet.

How did you guys get into the program? I'm jealous!

One interesting rumor right now is that Yahoo is giving out amazing amounts of money per click to get their beta testers excited and have them spread around the wonderful payments they are getting. That way all the webmasters will be looking at their watches waiting for the time that Yahoo finally opens up for everybody and they will jump into the program without thinking it twice. That is when Yahoo will decrease their payment per click, but most webmasters will just say "what the heck, I'm already in, I'll stay here for a while and wait to see what happens"

Sounds like good marketing, and it sure seems that they are doing that now

As the cost (i.e. hassle) of switching between AdSense and YPN will be very small, both Yahoo and Google will have to keep publisher payment levels fairly even in order to remain competitive.

I agree however since the advertisers set the marketplace I am not sure how they can do this. One thing I have noticed is YPN has many big name advertisers... like for instance I see alot of big fortune 500 company sites where as with google adsense I usually only see them on quarter ending months or month end when they want to dump there budget....

Yahoo can really do some good things here if they can prevent the scrap/spam that has overtaken adsense and kept the big money advertisers at bay.

Only time will tell....

+1 for the short term, Fryman.
But probably a hard competition will follow that, I think adsense will not be willing to give a large slice of the cake so easily, nor will YPN give up trying to take it. And as a result of the long term, the publisher will benefit this;)

I wish we hear more good news about YPN; yet I'm with adsense and I don't enjoy their understanding of "customer relations" and obscure TOS based applications.

The only way they could do this is by reviewing every single site where you would want to put the code up.

But since you already said that you can use the code on any site you want, it seems that isn't going to happen

What concerns me the most is the huge amount of banned adsense rats that will be joining the service once they open up

Yeah, like me. :D

I will put YPN ads on my air guns page, which Google AdSense banned under this line from the Google AdSense Program Policies:
Sales or promotion of certain weapons, such as firearms, ammunition, balisongs, butterfly knives, and brass knuckles

If what is being said here is true and we can get in, G is in trouble. I'm talking to folks that are having the usual traffic and CTR, but revenue is off by 50%. That is happening to me too.

If I can get in to Y, I may just jump ship.

How do you plan to handle both YPN and adsense? Are you going to run both?

I run both on the same sites just not on the same pages.

G is in trouble.

Read Yahoo's TOS page. To translate what it says, they say they are paying MORE now, and will drop payout rates after the beta stuff and hype ends!!!

Prolly why everyone wants to get in while Y put their best foot forward..

Remember too folks, when the floodgates open, expect a flood. That is, the dynamics you're enjoying right now will be severely diminished, both from a support and payout perspective. Let's not forget either that Y are free to change their TOS at any time.

What I'm interested in is how Y differs from G. At the end of the day, they will have no choice but to address the very same issues G has had to with Adsense.

I'm aware that the beta is more than just code - I suspect there are some very clever minds applying themselves to a longer term model, but I'm at a loss to see how they will improve over G at a micro service level (my simple publisher perspective).

The moneys good right now - hell, why not roll in the fluff while it's there - but it's not sustainable and publishers will need to remain very aware of that.

Now, if they'd just allow us AUSSIES to join.. :)

Cheers,

JL

I applied a while back - I don't have MAJOR traffic like some of you guys ... so figured I wouldn't be accepted ... but lo and behold, I got an Email today that I'm in ... so I switched a page over to YPN and we'll see how it does. It's not a very good data point as traffic is a couple of dozen page views a day, but just a little test of my own.

So yea, they are opening up the floodgates to the little guys ... I suspect we'll hear from MSN soon too.

Quoting shit out of context does no one any good. You left out the if in your efforts to sensationalize my post.

Nice try, but a waste of time.

Learn how to read the TOS page. It's not if.

you may receive a promotional rate of compensation for your participation in the Beta Program and that we reserve the right to alter this rate at any time.

So of course Yahoo wants people to make more money now and jump shop, if Yahoo's not on crack. Theres your if.
