How long did it take to get you first few visitors after putting the site live.

I think 2 days.. When the mainpage of my website got indexed it all went pretty fast..

2 or 3 weeks to get good traffic.

hmmm my site geting good traffic after 3months or so as i didnt spend money on advertisment .. :) + i write and handle alone... aorund 3to 4sites :D

It's depend on subject and language of your site, if subject have concurency in google serp in some niches and keywords, then google place you site to sandbox.
Your site can move out from sandbox if you have fat back links from main pages with PR > 6 usually.

One of my new site only starts to get traffic from Google after three months going live..

Google always gives a boost of traffic for the first month or so after indexing ... after this you will be swiftly transfered to the sandbox where you will stay until you're site comes of age and is ready to survive in the big wide world.
Usually this stay will be around 9 months there are ways to shorten the stay of course by gaining TrustRank from seed authority sites (incredibly difficult but very worthwhile should you maange it) and you will in this time rank for specific non competitive terms.
