Never bothered with it although I do check Alexa from time to time just for fun. I only use the google tool bar.

Mar 16th 2007, 9:39 am
no. Although I've heard that doing so will help boost your alexa rating just by visiting your own sites... truth? I don't know. Alexa is kinda pointless... IMO.

i use search status for FF

Martindale
Mar 16th 2007, 10:15 am
Do not want. ;)

It's IE only, and using Internet Explorer is like... asking to be shot.

Mar 18th 2007, 6:29 am
I do have it installed in IE.

But I don't use IE much. I use firefox for browsing the net and when alexa or some research is needed then only I use IE for that purposes.

I have it installed in IE as well, but I rarely use IE, I always use FF for browsing purposes.

use this for Mozilla FF http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/ A+++ and you can place it anywhare on your browser
Does using this extension affect Alexa statistics (like as if the Alexa toolbar is installed), or is it just a way to view stats from your FF browser?

Yea search status is fine.
Once i tried to install Alexa and like 10 different alerts poped up about adware/trojan alert.

Minterest
Mar 18th 2007, 8:09 am
Am using that for the last 4 years or so... now I cant browse without it... coz i just want to see the ranking of all sites which am browsing..

Also somebody tell me whether ther is any tool available to show the rankings from alexa in IE without using that tool bar.

NewTier
Mar 18th 2007, 9:54 am
Yeah, but then when I ran spybot, it uninstalled it for me.
It's pretty much pointless. lol

I use Firefox and when I tried to install it for MSIE my AV identified it as spyware.
I use this bookmarklet to quickly get Alexa rankings on demand:
javascript:location.href='http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url='+encodeURIComponent(location.href)

Mar 18th 2007, 2:16 pm
I use Google toolbar :D

sabian1982
Mar 18th 2007, 2:25 pm
And this brings up the question of what is the real point of Alexa ranking... its pretty much out dated and useless as this information is based on the toolbar information!

Roxyyo
Mar 18th 2007, 3:19 pm
Yeah but I don't see much difference with Google accounts and tracking personalized search, kinda spyware too

smub
Mar 18th 2007, 3:58 pm

vegabond
Mar 18th 2007, 4:31 pm
Only Google Toolbar, I installed one time alexa toolbar and noticed that is caught by my SpyWare software. So I removed it

But I like to check my sites alexa ranking :o

Millar
Mar 19th 2007, 8:46 am
I have search status for firefox, shows me alexa rank and google pageranks of every page I visit, it also does the same as the toolbar (raise site ranks).

cianuro
Mar 19th 2007, 9:31 am
it also does the same as the toolbar (raise site ranks).

No, it doesn't.

Mar 19th 2007, 9:47 am
nope using google its best

Mar 19th 2007, 9:59 am
i haven't installed it yet... what's that for? is it safe to use?

veridicus
Mar 19th 2007, 5:23 pm
I've never met anyone who's ever downloaded it. So I'm shocked that anyone cares about their Alexa ranking. Such a tiny percentage of users have it that it's pointless. It's so pointless I'm suprised they still get any data.

Erind
Mar 19th 2007, 5:55 pm
I don't think firefox makes an Alexa Toolbar, but I have gotten an extension that displays Alexa Rank on bottom right of browser, next to the PageRank and the Adsense Report ;)

Blogmaster
Mar 19th 2007, 6:37 pm

Well, in firefox...
1st row is the menu (file.. view.. history.. etc)
2nd row is Navigation/Address one.
3rd one is for Bookmarks
4th one is for tool-bar
5th one is for all open tabs.

Wooo man! i have no place for any more toolbars! and most of us can afford to have only 1. Google toolbar is the only choice coz it shows PR.

Why the hell FF dosent support alexa!!!
