Ok, we have had threads about linking TO your sites, let's look it from they other side...
I'm currently running a test with 2 sites, both new, 10 inbound links (the same) and same content (random carbage + 2 keywords)
on site A i've put links to PR0 sites
on site B i've put links to PR7-8 sites
both sites are now PR0 ofcourse, but have been spidered (all 2x4 pages).
What do you think will happen? PR-wise, i guess no difference.
but for SERPS? What's the general opinion? Does it matter to what kind of sites you link to? If so, is PR a critereum? (oh and did I mention I am only interested in Google PR/SERPS/spidering :) )

That is an interesting test. I heard that listing to authorotative sites can help your listings slightly. Please let us know what happens ;)

Hey good idea! So, nothing linked _to_ those test sites?

It is an interesting experiment. My bet is that there will be no difference between the pages.
However the real problem with a test like this is that it may take you 6 month or longer to ever see any results.

... unless you link to those test sites form the other (same) sites. In this case it'll take much less :)

Explain that a little more for me please. If Google puts these pages in their sandbox, and the probability is very strong, then it may take 6 months or longer and I'm not aware of any way to avoid that.

the both have the same inbound links , and I will not mention urls anywhere so that will be the only inbound links.
if there is such thing as a sandbox, both will be put it, or both will not. now we just sit and wait.

Interesting.. So you are trying to see if outbound links have any effect?
I would be suprised if they did.. but will like to see the results regardless.

Yup. PR-wise it will probably not change anything, but if I would be google, pages that link ONLY to great/large sites are 'better' pages than pages that link only to crappy pr0 sites. And as described above is what I'm testing, I hoped to get some input now so I can change things before I wait 6 months to see some results and have to start over again because I missed something..

I take exception to the comment "crappy PR0" sites. PR0 doesn't necessarily mean a site is "crappy". PR is a measure on inbound links. It has nothing to do with the quality of the page.
With the very long time between PR upgrades you have even less criteria to judge a page by. Someone could design the finest site in the World right now and it would be PR0 for possibly 6 months. You just cannot use PR as a measure of the quality of a web site.

I stand corrected,
I meant to say: I link to PR0 sites that are crappy too :)

I think the result will depend on what site you have linked to(theme) and what is the theme of the site on which you have placed those links.
As you said you only have some carbage on your sites, i doubt whether it makes any sense to do such an experiment.
I think you should place relevant content on one of the sites that is in line with the authorative site you are talking about and leave the other site as it is.

I think that nothing is set in concrete. Some people believe it is possible to get out of sandbox in two month or so by getting proper inbound links, by adding content etc. I can't prove it, though.
