Directory Critic Logo Competition

As some of you may know, I have recently had a re-design of my site. Here it is:

Directory Critic (http://www.directorycritic.com)

Obviously, the site is a directory list and resource. My target audience is webmasters. I need something that fits the color scheme of the site, can work on multiple backgrounds and is easily brandable for banners and promotions.

You can see on the site that there is a 370x100 space allocated for it at the top left of the site. So that's the size I want to see when you post examples.

Competition ends 21st March 2007

The competition winner will be paid via PayPal on receipt of the logo and psd files.

NRL, Nice one. I liked it better when it didn't have the spikes around the edge.

But, it has to cover about 370px wide. So maybe take the text out of the circle and put it to the left?

Edit: I see how you've layed it out, thanks for posting it. I do like it better without the spikes around the edge though.

Yeah sure thing. I just threw that together in about 15 minutes. I will work on the logo in the next few days when I have more time.

DaveyBoy - I like the text, but it really needs some sort of visual element.

Concoon - Colors are good, but the tick looks a bit like some of those free logo templates you can pick up.

AddictedtoFate - Same comment as concoon

Constance - Not really a fan of the animated banner, doesn't really fit with the site

TheGrin - Sorry mate, not really a fan of that one.

NRL - are you going to post some further developments of your design?

@ramakrishna - like the cartoon, but I want a white background for the logo. Maybe try to work the cartoon into it similar to what NRLmedia did.

@jamess - linke I said in previous comments, Im not a fan of the tick. It looks like a logo template with Directory Critic next to it!

I normally (never) do logos, but I just couldn't resist. :) I tried to match your color scheme as best I could. :)

I went for a list thing that represents both listing directories and rating them (critiquing), and did a checkbox to represent a positive rating, of course.

Thanks SasaVtec for the headsup. I request designers no to copy someone logoes that are already existing on net. It is too bad...believe on your creativity...If copied designs start winning the contests and what about really designers efforts and time? If prize money is given to a copied design then where will creativity stand?....:mad:

@zmaja: There are a lot of designs...I am thinking..and am comparing! Be patient...

OK, ramakrishna, I like the circle better than the oval but I like it with Directory Critic on the outside of the circle. As the main text.

AndrewR, Yeah, not a fan of the tick. Try working on a better pic/graphic

zmaja - I like the thinner fonts, that font type doesn't really fit with the site. I like your graphic though.

Wow - so many entries in the last 24hrs...

I am going to comment on the best ones :)

@raghav - yours is a definite stand out. Simple and brandable. Any chance you can post a pic with it on the current template so I can check it out?

@Saves Th3 Day - I like what you've done too. Though I don't like the font and color of the word critic. Can you adjust that and maybe post a pic of it on the template?

@nabz - cool looking graphic, but it doesn't really fit with the theme of the site.

@ragnav - does your logo come from a logo pack that you have bought? If so you need to disclose that. People are designing logos from scratch, and if you're simply putting my text on something pre-designed you should say so.

@Saves Th3 Day - yeah I dont like the font for critic, a thinner font like what's on ragnav's attempt would be better. I am also not a fan of that magnifying glass. Maybe a different magnifying glass image.

@nabz - Colors are perfect, but I think the left hand side graphic is a bit to overpowering

@dancam - I don't really like the way the logo is in a box and the graphics don't really suit the site

@pzn - sorry I missed yours. I reckon it's too bold and overpowering. And I would prefer some sort of graphic in there. Possibly use a thinner font?

@ramakrishna p - Sorry I missed yours as well. I like the cartoon, can u try putting just the cartoon in there and keeping the Directory Critic and other text on the outside. Also, make the circle smaller and maybe thicker with 2 colors or maybe a gradient. I like the fonts used it ragnav's design, so that's a good guide.

Well the logo is from scratch only, I am not sure what do you mean by logo Pack, if that means premade logo template, i will simply say NO.
It is designed by me and i have full copyright on it, feel free to enquire if you want.

Thanks for clearing that. I got your PM. The reason I asked is becuase it looked a lot like some other entries in a contest thread. Anyways, it's all your so thanks.

@justlikethat - I think it looks a bit plain, with a lot of whitespace. Colors are good (inc grey). I don't really like that inside of the mag glass.

@ramakrishna p - Your designs just keep getting better :) I like the way #1 has the critic guy coming out of the circle. I also like what you've done with the text (reflective bottom etc). A few suggestions. #1 Can you make the whole thing a bit smaller. #2 Can you put something else on the Critic's whiteboard (like a site, not a graph?) #3 Can you try some different fonts. I like the font color of the first example the best.

@pzn - Much better than the first one. Try making the words directory critic stand out a bit more from the folder and tagline.

I can try other colors at your request. The design would work on multiple colored backgrounds.

Black & white version would also be very easy to use for literally anything promotion wise - t-shirts, mugs, black and white leaflets, accessories etc.

We try to give you a meaning full logo identity, We have created an eye which shows meaning full ways like its shows that directory critic has strong mission.

Red color on this logo shows criticizing view,
Blue for find the good one.
And colors came from yours website theme .

We have also more determined and stylish, 3D styles of this logo but it is just for the previewing our idea.
Hope you will like our effort ...

Hello Mr. Critic,

I had to give you my donation to your site's face lift (love the skin by the way). I just now ran across this thread and had to whip something up for you before time ran out, wish I weren't so busy or I'd give you a couple more to choose from for the HUNDREDS of visitors you've sent my way since January.

This logo was done in illustrator so you can scale this vector art to any size and put on a shirt or, even better, a bill board. I've also given you the courtesy of a favicon (http://www.erectadirectory.com/critic/favicon.ico {since I can't attach an .ico file}) as you can see on the snapshot below.

If you happen to pick this logo just consider it a gift, or better yet, put it towards my featured ad for 2008, you know I'm advertising for the long term after the outstanding return I've had.

BTW: I just love that Australian WTF look on the globes face . . . he must have just critiqued my site :D

The competition has officially ended. Sorry to the people that submitted last minute entries, i didn't get back on DP in time to comment and review.

It was a very hard decision, and I had to ask the opinions of some of my webmaster friends before I decided. But the competition has been won by Istvan with this logo:
