Hello,
I've started my new directory:
www.circlo.com
I got about 480 links in a week yet and its getting 250+ uniques everyday. But i didn't earned anything yet :(. I have put google ads, but they didn't made anything :(...
Do you guys know any good ways to earn from directories?
Thanks

Make your directory a paid directory..
( you will get $$ only if your directory have high PR and for that you must build quality high PR oneway links )

Dont rely much on adsense for directories but If you have the PR and PS then you can get $$ for submissions and also by selling sitewides etc

You will need to play around with your ads, change colours, change locations, blend them etc... and see if that helps.
Being a paid directory might work, but you need to be more established I think although if you get the price right at maybe just $2 then it could still pay off.

You can put ads for other company or banner of other company they will pay for that. You can also start affiliate program to increase traffic on your website.

I believe a directory needs to have good PR / PS and should be able to pass on the PR , in order to make some money and it takes some good time and work to reach that level . I am new in this so lets see what others have to say :) :)

Hey I wish you lots of luck but the directory market has moved so fast especially in the last 18 months
The days of making quick money on directories are either over or in the last throes of a terminal demise
What is needed now is total commitment, and getting 480 links in a week is a start
But did you review each one?
Did you edit the text on each one to be unique content?
I think the answer to that (with respect) is no, because if you did where did you find the time
But I would edit them if I were you ---------that is if you want your directory to get indexed on the SE's
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=gKl&q=site%3Acirclo.com&btnG=Search
You have 70 index pages you need to build on that
First I would go back to basics build a solid traffic base, start with a continuous back link program, get your directory known in the directory market to do that you will need to submit to an across the market selection of paid directories
Shut the door now on free listings - the guys who have free and paid directories are in the majority - but competing with the sucessful ones the few in that sector is not going to be easy as the guys who are successful are very smart & savvy
I would take all the ads off the site ---------- that is if you want paid only listings ---------- how can you expect a person to pay for a listing then all over the same page you have ads which are detracting and pulling the viewer away from the listing ----------- when the site is very sucessful maybe ads are ok
The market is maturing very fast there is always a place for newcomers but you need to have differentiators standard basic templates are fine and do a great job, but you need a bit more these days to compete
imho

I might be under the wrong misunderstanding here but aren't you supposed to have a "Template by Alive Web Directory." with a link in your footer?

Directorys are harder to get good monetirize then other sites + adsense and directorys don't go to well
The most important income are links selling but you need PR for this
