Why are there so many registars??.. I was looking around and there are just a ton of them!

Well, some are registrars while some are resellers for those registrars. I guess people here and those interested in SERP and the likes are more likely the cause which drives the demands for domain names.

there are so many so people have options to choose which one to reg from lol, i'll suggest just go with godaddy or namecheap, or moniker -- i've tried all and like all of them

There are as many registrars as hosting providers, so people can choose freely from any of them and not because someone says go here or there.

Making your own informed decisions is the way to go ;)
