I applied for an Account Exectutive position last year, I was even offered the job. But at the time I could not convince my wife to move to NY. From what I remember of the interview process is that Google is very much like everyone else. The exception being they want the BEST, so my advice to you is brush up on all the lingo and be prepared to be challenged.

Could be a very busy job at the moment as the "search quality" is non-existent!

It would be interesting to work in google, maybe you will know 100% the ways in and ways out of there search engine. Not that it is that complicated, but I bet there is always something that we don't know. :)

I really would love to work there too.
But for me, it's mostly because I really really want to meet User A from Google Romance (http://www.google.com/romance/tour.html), and of course because of my huge crush on Marissa Mayer (http://www.google.com/corporate/execs.html#marissa). :D

its one of the best companies to work for.
No one person at Google knows the entire search algorithm. Think about it, it could be a nightmare if they left the company.
I met a google engineer at a conference and he something like.........no one person knows all the algo. about 5 people know parts of it and they don't know each other and they will never meet each other. All 5 aren't even on the same continent.

No one person at Google knows the entire search algorithm. I met a google engineer at a search engine conference and he was very evasive but he gave a weird and non direct answer such that said something like.........no one person knows all the algo. 5 people know parts of it and they don't know each other and they will never meet each other. All 5 aren't even on the same continent.
this sounds interesting ....can you please extend this by giving me the complete info regarding that conference or just give me a link .......

I can't help but laugh at this, seriously.
I'm sure the guy was stretching the truth and I didn't care to ask any follow up questions but I don't think any one person knows the entire algo.....its too risky.
I see google engineers all the time, including Matt Cutts and members of the webspam team at the Search Engine Strategies conferences all the time, and they are more than willing to chat.

Hi,
Firstly, all the best mate... Do well.
It would be interesting to know what sort of question do they ask. I've heard that they have like 2 to 3 rounds of interview in which they have seprate interview for technical, managerial and other skills. Don't know much though...

Google recieved 1,000,000 applicants in 2006 and only hired 5000 of them. That means only .50% got hired and 99.5% didn't get hired.
Those are some crazy odds!

I worked as a search quality rater, only they contracted me out through a 3rd party company... So I wasn't an actual employee of Google.
No interviews for me... just a series of tests.
Good luck with your interview(s)... I've heard they are pretty intense...!

Mar 7th 2007, 6:09 pm

part 3

1) what is 401 error?
2) which among is the google product?
3) which option best suits the functionality of orkut?
4) what is mash up?
5) hw to stop robot from indexing particular portion of the site?
6) uses of site map?
7) can robots read swf files ?\
lots more of this standard
part 4

out of 4 the 3 sites looked like as of they were made for adsense

Google doesn't employ anyone who doesn't have a degree or PHD which is crazy because if you have massive amounts of proven experience in the search industry but don't have a piece of paper to say you went to university and got drunk and had copious amounts of sexual partners (ok a stereo type of students I know) then you're not good enough for them.
Good luck with the getting the job by the way :)

probably most math phd students from the top colleges like MIT can write their own google search, may even make it better. eventhough, there would be no way to catch up to all the content that already is in google though.
awesome job on the interview btw!

I think good search engine is not only to write an algorithm - there are many nuances which comes out during daily use ant this is where real experience and quality come from.

The thing is there are a lot of webmasters better at knowing the ins and outs of their search engine than some of their emplyees. I am sure gogole would love to have few of those instead of overpaying stheir emplyess on their payroll.

You never know when it's coming. My dad got an offer for a job that paid him twice what he was making at the time, and he applied for it about 9 months before. He thought the company wasn't interested, the call came out of the blue after 9 months. He took the job tho :)

hi guys .....I COULDNT MAKE INTO GOOGLE .... and this was the mail i got
Thank you so much for your interest in Google and for taking the time to
come in and interview with us. The hiring committee carefully reviewed your
experience and qualifications and determined that there is not a strong
match for a 'Search Quality Evaluator ' position at this time.
We hope that in the future a position at Google arises that will be a better
fit. We'll keep you in mind as Google continues to grow and hope you might
consider us again sometime down the road. Thanks again for considering
Google. We wish you well in your future endeavors.
