What is the worth of exchanging content with a single backlink with sites over a regular link exchange? And whats the proper way of doing this?
I've been reading that soon google will frown upon link pages and demerit sites with them. In a recent email I received it was said:
Also, it is my opinion that Google and others will soon devalue "link" pages. For one, how relevant is a link on a page with 50 other links? Two, how hard is it to program an algo to devalue any link on any page considered to be a "link page"?
Is this guy right?

What your referring to (I think anyway) is writing articles to obtain backlinks. This is one very popular method to obtain links to your site, whereby you do writeups and distribute them to the various article distribution sites.

Actually, its more like they arent accepting links on link pages anymore because google appparantly doesnt like this. So instead, you trade content articles containing a link.

I really cant understand why you would want to?
If you have content which you want to freely distribute, whats better then one way links to your site which you would get by having various other webmasters publishing your article on their sites.

Maybe it isn't necessarily content exchange you're thinking of, but exchanging links on content pages? Just trying to clarify.
Text Link Brokers is doing something like this now, called Pre-sell pages.

You can always find quality sites on your own and approach them about doing exclusive link exchanges, or offering free content/articles in exchange for a link. Depends on how you want to approach this. As Dcristo mentioned if you have articles to share there are many free content sites where you can distribute them, and you don't have to link back to the users.

I do really think that posting articles for getting one links is the way to go.
But if what you want is a link from a specific website, then exchanging links "in the content" is a much better way than links pages.
Just think about it: what looks more natural?
