With all the recent posts about creating quick revenue, I thought I'd ask how people approach this.
Do you buy a new domain, use a subdomain, or buy a used domain ?

I normally aim for a site to make little or no money for the first 3 or 4 months whilst they start to rank. So for me it's like a rolling game, create site, market it, wait for income, do it over and over. I don't normally put adsense (or there PPC) on until the site is indexed and is getting visitors.

What I'm looking for I suppose, is a way to mitigate the sandbox effect - if there even is a way.

I am with you on the plan of building new sites. I have found it is a waiting game in most cases, with a quick success to happen occassionally. That is always a site with a huge viral aspect to it though. I also don't worry about income from a site until it receives 500-1000 visits a day.

For me it depend on the sites, my long term income generating ones ones take about 6 months before they start making money but I do have ads on them from the start.

If I am looking at a serious new venture I often look for a half decent domain in dmoz or located in the serps but way down and an obviously neglected site that the domain can be bought cheaply for.

It's not the medium term sites I'm thinking about (ie >6 months). But rather sites that take advantage of something current.
Say something happens in the world that you can build a site about. That something might only be of interest for a couple of months. Is the only way to take advantage of this sort of thing to have a news site where you can add current content or can anyone think of another way ?
