View Full Version : 300% click-thru rate!

FYI FWIW: One of my infrequently used channels recorded a 300% click-thru rate two days ago - yes, you read that right, 3 times as many clicks as it did page impressions - too bad they aren't all like that! ;-)

My only explanation for this (besides Google error) is that the few folks who viewed the page decided to click on more than one of tha ads on top of the page - any other explanations?

Curious if anyone else has ever seen this?

one or more other possibilities ...

a cached ( G cache or Y cache (?) ) page still has YOUR ad and can be clicked
since your code is in your ad - YOU get the credit
also another options might be

a person saving a page on his PC
then - while online - viewing your page one - loadig ads - or several times or even emailing your page to friends
and they view the page and click ..

you still get the credit even if they click on their copy of your page
i guess so because i just saw one of my pages in Google's cache with active updated G ads

many people view my pages cached at G or Y
i only see/know it because they load the CSS from my server nothing else :-)

usually when you view a cached version of a page with an ad you get a PSA..

I don't think that you can cache the contents of an AdSense ad.

I may be incorrect, but I believe the cached snapshots of pages are actually googles Pub #.

300% Click through would be concerning to me. I am not sure at what point Google will ban your account, but if a competitor is out there clicking 'for fun' you could be in real trouble. I have to think that it looks as though someone was clicking back and forth. Hopefully, they don't do it too often.

Yeap.
It would be a big red flag for Google.
Somebody may be running some kind of script with your affiliate code in it.

Well given that alek mentioned it's an infrequently used page, I would imagine it was simply a one-time occurrence, where someone clicked more than one ad.

As Shawn mentions, this was an infrequently used page ... so maybe there were multiple click-thru's and/or Corporate/ISP's that all conspired to make it happen. I've seen a FEW repeat occurances of behavior, but they are very rare ... and the numbers are in the signle digits, so no big deal I think ...

Yeah, hopefully nothing happens to your account. What would you say are high numbers for Click throughs, Im experiencing (with my very young account) 12-13% right now..

Unfortunately, the Adsense TOS doesn't allow discussion of numbers - too bad, because it would be real interesting to compare ...

I usually hold the shift key when clicking on a side article. This causes the link to open in a new windows. Wonder if this is what was done?

hm.. even if it has multiple click throughs, the person has to come back to the page and when he does, there is an impression, right?

so how could clicks be higher than the impressions?

digitalpoint

In theory you could click and have it open in a new window.

If you right click- open in new window - you are still given credit.

I have seen this happen too. It's important to keep track of these pages- most likely they contain ads that are really relevant to the content.
