Once in awhile I'll use AltaVista, but mostly to access their Babel Fish translator. Other than that, is mostly Google for me or sometimes Yahoo!

I used to use altaviasta long time ago (2000-1)! It was great at the time. Then someone told me about google! :) I never used it again. SOmetimes I use babelfish! :)

When I first got on the Net I used it, and loved it. Then a friend pointed me to MetaCrawler and I LOVED that...though, I stopped using it because it seemingly sold out to payed placement (speculation). I went back to AltaVista after that till I lost my net connection for nearly a year. When I got back on the net, I've used nothing but Google.

I do use BabelFish though...

The image search is excellent.

It also returns an appropriate country page based on your browser's language preference - so if you have set en-gb, you get a "United Kingdom" search option, even if you are not in the UK. MUCH cooler and more correct than geolocation (whatl Google and everyone else does). The problem is that most people do not have this set correctly - they should probably use geolocation as well (perhaps they do?) and combine the results with some simple rules.

Altavista, used it for a while back in the day then when they got bought by yahoo I figured I'd just use yahoo.
Now I use Yahoo and MSN and google and occassionaly alltheweb.

The only search engine I used a few years ago (back in 2000) was Altavista. Dont remember the last time I used it recently...Google has killed em all.

guys, just give AV a chance. Yeah, it can't compete with google, but still it provides really good search result.

Don't forget that in the beginning google was far behind AV and Yahoo. So, who knows, maybe one day AV will emerge on the surface.

It's not my primary search engine, but I do use it quite frequently - I like it's media search functions more than Googles.
