Does Google Index "Parked Pages?"

What's the scoop?

I am positive that just a few months ago, Google was indexing and
applying PR to parked pages (sedo, domainhop, fabulous etc...).

That does NOT seem to be the case "anymore?"

I need some expert advice/opinions - rookies like me "pipe in" too ;)

not sure if this is exactly what you mean by parked, but my godaddy default page was cached on a new domain before the NS changes propogated to goolge

Let's say I buy a domain at GD and just park it. (This domain is for sale as an example)...

Then, I put a link or "many" links to that new domain on my "well-indexed" site
that is spidered a lot...

Not that long ago - Google would index that new domain and show a "link" to it
back to main site...

That does not seem to be happening now???

I'm just curious - that's all ;)

P.S. It was pretty easy to get a new domain to a p*ger*nk 4 or 5 QUICK... not now.

In fact, I have seen many people on other forums POST/BRAG that they could get
any domain to a p*ger*nk 5 or 6 or 7 this way.

Seems like Google has correctly "closed off" this loophole!

At least a few months ago, this was the case. I pointed a link to a parked page on a non-competitive term and it ended up at #3 for that term. I never did check the PR though

Oh and, for the superstitious, the link was from a page called links.asp

I've got several parked domains at Fabulous now, and most of them still gets spidered..

But there has been no PR update in a couple of months, that's why you don't see any new PR for parked domains (or any others for that matter..)

I guess I'm really not understanding the point behind this.

why have it parked? just because it's parked doesn't mean it's treated differently; if you were to put a small "coming" page up and link to that page, it'd get just as much PR as the parked page..

Fabulous has a pretty good PPC program..
I've been paid up to $10 pr click on some of my parked domains there.. :)

If you buy/sell domains you can get some nice extra income by parking your domains while you're looking/waiting for the right buyer.

I do have a point - I'm just a little slow getting to it ;)

A few months back I had a couple of nice names that were parked at SEDO.
I had several links to those names on my main site for a few months and BINGO...
both went to PR5 like THAT.

There is a "market" for PR domains - whether that's good or bad or whatever isn't
the point, I've done the same thing with another name recently and... NOTHING.

So, my question really is:

Has Google changed it's position on indexing "parked pages?" I am sure Google can
distinguish between a parked page and a simple one page site that I make???

OR: Like others have suggested, Google has not updated PR for awhile, so it's simply
a timing issue???

I believe it's the last one...

I've parked several more domains at Fabulous the last two-three weeks, and most of them have been indexed by google now..

Google shouldn't distinguish between a parked page and a one page site, since the parked page is really a one (or more) page site as well..

Example: lets say you went out and pointed a lot of directory links theme related to what your website was going to be about to your parked site...will this hurt you in anyway causing any type of penalty by G.

why would it?

I can think of plenty of reasons why that WOULDN'T be the case.

among them:

when you change nameservers, it takes a while to propogate. let's say you set your domain up, have tons of content, and go and submit your site.

depending on the isp of the person trying to access it, they may still be getting the parked page depending on how out of date their DNS info is..

Maybe you'll get indexed for "control panel" or "login here" but apart from that I don't see any downside. And, it typically takes a while for Google to come by and actually index a new page, so it's best to get in the queue as soon as possible.

I always "hold-off" until I'm ready to roll... more of a "only one kick at the
can" kind of superstition. I'm not sure "why" I think you only get one kick...
just a feeling ;)

In fact, I have a new site - Domain Name Geek .com
Still working on content, so I have not pointed any links that way yet...

Kinda of gives me an "incentive" to get working on the "da**" thing too!

Good! I've done some digging myself and have come to the conclusion that links.*** is a SEO forum myth along with Google doesn't spider your website if it has a G in it :D
