Out of directory submission or socialbooking submission which would users do if they only had time for one?

I wish to launch a new site and want to promote it as efficiently as possible

Directory submission for Backlinks.
Social BM for Traffic.

I would advise to go for both, really :)

why not do both? social bookmarking is awesome for traffic. Directories are for backlinks .. NEVER ever got any traffic from them.

I can assure you But some directories still give you traffic

But social book marking sites like del.icio.us give you a large amount of traffic!

as what they've said social bookmarking sites are for traffic and you might have backlinks(link baiting) if you will create contents for your site that visitors will think to be useful to everyone...directories will also give you traffic but i think only a few rather than you will get with social bookmarking sites..

If I had to choose, I'd go for social bookmarking (stumbleupon) over directories any day. That is: serious directories like DMOZ and Yahoo and specilised ones in your topic range are more important then social bookmarking. But most general directories that don't even have quality standards are pretty useless for google traffic anyhow.

There are lots of quality directories, even free. Sumission to those will increase your backlink count and have positve impact on your page rank if you are carefull about quality and relevancy.

I would go with directory if I had to choose one, if you have a great article then go ahead and digg it.....most social bookmark sites add the nofollow tag anyway

It depends upon your uses.

As oseymour said, if you have articles speciically then go for Social Bookmark, where else you can go for directory submission service which is excellent for building a strong foundation of Domain name which gets links juice to you.

It reallly depends on what you are looking for. As far as traffick I would definately go social bookmarking, but as far as quality backlinks I would go directories.

If you mean mass submission software I would choose social bookmark submitters like autosocialposter (http://www.mass-automation.com/specials/idevaffiliate.php?id=276_8) but not mass directory submissions.

Am I the only one here who can't get much traffic from del.icio.us. I get around 5 uniques from it a month. I have even listed my site there myself.

in my opinion , submitting your site to quality directories is a better way because you must submit your site to social bookmark sites everyday as a slave;) but if you choose directories , this will effect to your serp result forever

No, you aren't the only one. I have one site that actually is in the top 4 for that particular keyword - still gets me no visitors to speak of. For me stumbleupon is the only social bookmarking service to get me significant amounts of traffic. Delicio might get your link seen by webmasters, which is a good crowd to be seen by - obviously. But for many topics I don't think there is a lot of traffic there to be gotten.

Jacobkell thats cause not all directories are good. My directory submissions person helped research and put together a submission service that will submit your site to free directories that will give u a backlink in google:)))))))).
Pm me more about details. Its the cheapest way to get google backlinks and it took 5 months to research.

Depends on the type of site really. For a proxy or humorous site I would prefer social bookmarking & link bait on the site itself. For a niche site that seeks to rank well in search engines, directory submissions.
