For a search engine such as Google, does it really help to trade links with another site that has the same PR and about the same number of links (or even more links) than you have?

I'm thinking that since you pass to them some of your PR, and they pass to you some of their PR, that it wouldn't really benefit.

Tell me more!

It would not hurt your link popularity unless you link with low PR and not related sites.

A link is a link, as long as it is not a bad neighbor, they all help. :)

Your site will not leak PR to the other sites. Hence, any relevant inbound links will help to build up your page importance.

Even if the link has low PR, you will benefit from it. May be the Low PR site brings in more traffic then a high PR.

High PR doesn't mean high traffic site.

Link exchanges are fine as long as you do not link to any stupid site. It is quite possible for a PR5 site to exchange links with a PR0 ( It happens rarely, but does). The PR0 becomes a 5 on the next update and you have your ''equal'' thing obtained.

There are other benefits to exchange than just PR. And if you do not want to leak any PR, pay some $ and get a oneway link. One ways> LE's.

All links help, apart from "dirty" ones as i like to call them.

Gotta get as many links as you can out there. Just don't link to sites that use SEO techniques that will probably get them banned from the search engines and thus harm your own rankings, and you'll be okay.

I don’t think that’s how PR works you cant pass your PR on to another site PR is just how highly Google thinks of your site. It’s like a trust system the higher the PR the more trusted that site is. now if the site gets 30 backlines form PR4 and the site is at PR0 I think Google realizes that that site is a decent site and it improves their PR but you don’t loose any of your PR. So a lower PR page only gains from being linked to a higher PR if the same PR on both sites eventually I like to think they help each other improve.
