compatibility issue between mac and windows

Dear All,
I am facing a problem of yahoo messenger communication between mac and windowsXP platforms. My freind uses Mac and I use WindowsXP. Whenever i chat, both us of get messages very late and all the replies come at the same time. So there is never a smooth communication on yahoo messenger. I am using yahoo version 6.

Can anyone suggest why this is happening and what can be done?

Dunno why it could be happening, but I use Adium for MSN, AIM and YIM without any problems at all. Ask your friend to download Adium.
