For the past two weeks or so, I was on the front page for a pretty competitive term (I was number 10 for a term searched 5,700 times a day according to wordtracker, got me about 600 or so visitors a day from Yahoo).
Last night, it was still at the number 10 spot, I was like, ok, still keeping it which is good since it's for a website I haven't updated since October. And then this morning I noticed a huge drop. Went to the second page to the number 17th result. And then later today, I'm back at the 10th result, and then ten minutes later I refreshed and became the 9th result...
Anyone know why the rankings would act this funny?
EDIT: Dropped to the 10th spot again after 20 minutes.

I don't think a 9~19 change is a weired one. It's normal. Be patient.

My site was #1 in the most competetive term but suddenly it dropped in the 3rd page.

The sudden changes are normal for Yahoo, but there is something else happening to their index. They've rolled it for some reason. I've even checked the US listings against the UK ones and it's definately an old index.
On the 30th December I updated my homepage and title. On the 1st Jan Yahoo picked this up and by the 3rd I'd gone from 52->8 for my search term. Checking now, I'm back to 52 and my homepage title's reverted to the old one. Oddly, the cached site is up to date.
I guess they introduced an algorithm update, it went wrong, so they rolled back. Hopefully things should return to normal soon.

Well it seems to change on and off constantly so I wonder if they are experimenting with algorithm changes/updates.

I want to how much traffic you got from yahoo for ranking #9, and compared with google, what's ratio?

For the most competitive keyword that I'm targeting, I went from position #20 to position #140, then back. Now it's back to #140. The important thing is that Google has been steadily between #20 and #40 for that keyword.

Currently, it's now at number 10 with yahoo, and it's at around 31 for google. It gets me about anywhere from 400 - 600 visitors from yahoo a day if it's ranked at 10 for the whole day, and about 30 visitors from google when it's at the 31 spot for a day.

There's definitely something weird happening with yahoo. Another strange thing i noticed is that it changed the listings titles for many sites with ,and this is my assumption, the sites most used anchor text.
