I checked my Google Backlinks today using link: and had none. Previously I did not have that many, but there were several that have been consistent for the past 6 months! Has anyone else noticed this happening to them? Anyone know what's going on?

Google updated it recently, probably some of your backlinks had been removed.

I've never figured out link: for one of my sites I always get 29, but never the same 29! -- Makes no sense to me.

I would suggest do not use Google to check backlinks. As they do not show you most of your backlinks, you will have a hard time figuring out those sites..

Use Yahoo or MSN for backlinks checking. Alternatively, you can try out my Backlink Analyzer (http://www.useseo.com/backlink-analyzer.php) :)

Also try doing a search on google for www.yourdomain.com . It will give you that sites that link to you.

Thank you all for your replies so far. You all are great and I can't wait to return the favor. Here's a bit more info/query:

It's my understanding that the links that are returned by Google with link: are the links that Google values the most. Does anyone have any info to support this theory?

I still see the backlinks when I type in "www.yourdomain.com", just not using the link: option. Does this mean that Google has "devalued" those links?

I have been building links VERY slowly over the past few months and just did a very small amount of on page work the other night and am now on the second page of search results for my main keyword. So I'm not sure how I can lose my "important" links and at the same time move from >1000 for search results up to 18.

Thanks fisher42uk. That does work. Hmmm....The mysteries of Google still confound me. I checked BL with www included last week and it worked just fine. Still wondering if Google values these links higher than a regular link or not. Any opinions?

I think this may give you the answer try

searching for back links at http://link.ezer.com

there you can check back links and indexed pages at different DC's

also for one of my websites I had only one page indexed on one DC and on

other DC's the number of indexed pages was 151

so I think the tool is pretty good one

But the tool above I said would help you to know the backlinks at different DC's

also check your back links with Yahoo.com I think it is the best Search Engine which displays all the back links

IMO google didn't show all of your backlinks...and you don't have to worry about it...

Hi,
Thanks for the use of your tool. At first I typed my url in the Google Search Bar, lol :p . I did find that I had 1 link backlinked to my site. I guess that's a start!

I also noticed you had some other tools on there about keywords and such, so I took advantage of those as well. Thank you!

Google: 18 back links mostly from DP
MSN: 490ish backlinks from all over place but not from forums
Yahoo: 2000~ backlinks from everywhere.

You be the judge. Google is really bad at listing back links.

Okay, I get it. Then this is not a good ploy for upping yourself in Google's pages!

I couldn't find the same test I did the other day. Here are the results I got today:

Google: :Populartity
link: to the domain ( 0 )
site: from the domain ( 7 )
contain the name "Term" ( 25 )

Yahoo back links: ( 1 )

MSN back links: ( 6 )

Altavista back links: ( 2 )
