View Full Version : Which social bookmarking site is best?

Hi,

I've started a new site with virtually no other promotion so i am going to use this as a chance to do an experiment.

The site I've recently added bookmarking buttons to Trout Fishing Tips (http://www.mytroutfishingtips.com/).

I don't know how much traffic I will get from this but as it is a new site with hardly any other promotion it will be a useful experience.

Things I want to find out:

Which bookmarking site drives the most traffic.
How many "tags" the site gets given from each site.

Limitations:
It seems quite likely that different bookmarking sites will be better for different types of topic. At least this experiement will help people who run hobby sites, outdoor sites and that sort of thing.

Anyways, back to self-promotion under the dubious guise of a rather suspect "experiment", goto the site and click some social book marking buttons! :D

p.s. would be interested to hear peoples comments on which social bookmarking sites are best!
p.p.s. - pm me which sites you would like me to tag in return for helping me with my experiment!

IMO StumbleUpon (www.stumbleupon.com) and del.icio.us (http://del.icio.us/)...

Check out this thread (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=187626) it has a list of social bookmarking sites...

Hey Notting! You've really gone to town on the social bookmark buttons! :)

Personally, I use Del.icio.us quite a lot because of the integration with Flock (a more social web browser from the Firefox stable.)

But, I do provide buttons to Digg, Furl, Ma.gnolia and My Yahoo! for my 'blog as well.

I also offer the same options for my FeedBurner feed.

I take a very simple line when it comes to choosing social websites; 1. go with the ones with the biggest audience, and 2. the ones that the easiest to use.

You may well note that those two points are naturally mutually inclusive, so they can form either end of a sliding scale.

Hope that helps?

For this topic I would guess stumbleupon outperforms the others - if it's a good website, that is.

i'm only using http://del.icio.us/ (for searching as a normal user and for submitting my sites as a webmaster)

I would vote that delicious is the best social bookmarking for traffic.

Now, I've considered submitting my 'blog articles through Del.icio.us, but my submissions show up on my FeedBurner feeds, so it might look a little odd me submitting my own stuff...

I think you would get the most traffic if you got your site dugg. If you have something really interesting thats related to your site, you should give it a go.

Digg can be very useful, but you need a server set-up that can handle it. Think thousands of users trying to view/download/stream content at the same time with anywhere between 10,000 up to 75,000 views over a few days.

I'm on shared server hosting a video site and I've learned the hard way.

Also, Digg users don't click ads. Think below 1% ctr for Google ads at times. But it is very helpful for spreading the word.

Stumble, delicious for sure are favorites.

digg is good because they explore the site
