Well, for a very competitive term first page is full of all those sites which are listed in their directory and right on 2nd page my site ranks on top and all sites down to me are sites which are not listed in their directory including mine, so my question is does yahoo prefers those sites which are listed in their directory ? would it be good for me if get my site into directory for 300 dollar and i might get the chance to rank no 1 or 2 ?
Thanks

Yahoo used to give a lot more preference to sites that were listed in their directory but this is no longer the case. It can certainly help, but is by no means a guarantee you will rank no 1 or 2 - if I had to guess, it would not.

One of my sites used to be at the top at Yahoo. I never paid for the directory listing. However, lately the rankings have been dropping, while its rankings at Google are climbing to the top.

Yahoo is becoming more and more unpredictable these days. Having your site listed in their directory will help, but not sure by how much. I doubt if it is the crucial factor. If you really can afford that amount, go for it. Having your site listed at Yahoo directory will also help your rankings with Google and others.
