Like lots of people with blogs I battle against spam entries, but any ideas why would someone have posted this 'comment' on one of my blogs? Or perhaps google themselves have taken up spamming?: Comment as follows:

It's an attempt to be removed from the Akismet spam filtering. If enough people flag this user as 'not spam' he can get away with getting spam into blogs down the road.

I'm getting the same thing on my forum, I think these people must think that any entry with google.com is going to get G's attention and somehow other aspects of their profile or posts (in your case the comment entry) will receive a backlink or indexing or God knows what.

I get a lot of comment form spam with a supposed email address such as some-name@google.com. I think they use "google" as they figure people are not going to ban a google email address in the small chance it might be a real one someday. Also the bot scripts probably look to see if their spam content is posted either on the next page, or on another page a few days later, and if so, then they will repeat with a real domain of theirs that they are more cautious with being reported as spam.

common sense
n. Sound judgment not based on specialized knowledge; native good judgment.
Think about it. Do you REALLY think google is spamming you?

errr, cheers kevin but I think I'd worked out that google weren't actually responsible
Still, I see there's a whole world of clever spamming techniques I know nothing about. Always something new to learn

Are google spamming my blog?
Yes. A multi-billion dollar publicly traded company is spamming your tiny blog that no one has heard of.
Makes perfect sense to me.

I get this too. Matt Cutts must be doing his rounds again.

Ohene, I think a bit of irony has been missed here. Just to be clear I don't think google are spamming my blog and I never did think they were. It was what passes for humour in these parts.
Thanks to the first few entries I understand why spammers are making these entries. I am not sure that another ten people asking me why google would be interested in my blog will further improve my understanding.
