Google - The petulent child of search engines?

.....AKA a spoiled brat?

Here we are. All running around, chasing our tails in the never ending quest to keep Google happy. Google has become the center of attention in the search engine playground. Demanding we all play by his/her rules or face the consequences.

We spend HOURS making sure our websites comply with all it's rules. Back links from good PR rated sites, making sure most if not all links are "relevent". Not TOO many links, mind you or your site will be classed as a link farm. Taking pains to update our sites "regularly" with "unique" content.

We do all this, taking up HOURS of our time and yet, because of some obscure and unknown "algorithm" our sites still get buried, sandboxed and penalised for some unknown indisgression.

At the very same time, your site is flying high in Yahoo, MSN, Altavista etc, etc but if you aren't up there with the heavy hitters in GoogleBrat, you are nothing.

My point is, has Google become too big for it's breeches? These days, many of us spend more time keeping GoogleBrat happy than working on the actual content and/or purpose of our sites.

There are countless other search engines out there and it is high time GoogleBrat was given a bloody good spanking for it's petulence by one of it's competitors. This way, we could all be left in peace to get on with what we enjoy. Building our sites and earning money, if that's our thing.

Am I the only one with this opinion?

I must admit that this is fast becoming my attitude. As I see more and more of my stats coming from other search engines, I'm becoming less inclined to bother with all the buggerance to keep GoogleBrat happy. The only problem with this is that most others continue to hold Google up on it's pedestal. How many times do we see ppl wanting to buy text links on sites with X amount of Google pages indexed, etc? It's not as simple as just not using them. At least not unless the whole world decided to do it at the same time.

Yeah if you are doing well in all other search engines, then just worry about working on your site for you visitors sake. The harder most people try to please Google, the more frustrated they become ... I'm sure a lot of black hat SEO people started that way. Maybe one day Google will get their duplicate filter fixed and come to their senses.

... the latest stats are that 70% of searches go through google ... so ignoring them is pretty lame. On the other hand, if your site does well in other SE's - congrats. Then again - I don't really do all that much 'jumping through hoops', and do get found by google. So perhaps it's the jumping through hoops that gets your site ignored by google?

My site isn't ignored by Googlebrat but it does get hit by it's supplemental disease. My main point is that Googlebrat has no right to tell us how we should build our sites or what we should put in them. Except for illegal content, ofcourse. All it's "algorithms" are designed to herd us like a bunch of sheep in the direction it sees fit.

At the rate things are going, all sites will be clones, having to adhere to the exact same dictatorial regime. Oh, and when that happens, I suppose we will all be hammered for having duplicate content.

I make my sites usable for my viewers, and I don't give much thought to the SE's...
