many famous western companies have not registered their name with the suffix of (.ir) which is for Iran

I would like to know can I , as an Indivisual register and sell them?

You guys are right, if you register any of the above domains the companies can throw a lawsuit against you for copyright infringment. Read this article (http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/internet/01/26/mikerowesoft.settle.ap/) about a canadian teenager who was forced give up his website.

Vmwh is referring to Mike Rowe, he had a site called MikeRoweSoft.com and Microsoft had problems with it, even when it wasn't direct infringement, MS decided to go after it and got the domain after giving some compensation to Mike Rowe.

So yeah don't do it.

Register them? What's to stop you?

Be able to keep them? Then you'd better ask yourself why bother registering
domain names that possibly infringe famous trademarks, especially if each of
their mark holders passionately protect and enforce their rights.

as I read the rules of .ir domain registeration there is nothing about not registering a famouse brand, I know it can bother them, but maybe it cause them to buy it

saadahmed007 Microsoft.ir is registered By : Jabari,Muhammad since :27 Dec 2003 . now is owner of this domain is : jabari,Muhammad . and microsoft can't get it .

and Paypal.ir is registered by : tarkhorani,hamid since : 5 march 2004 and Paypal can't get it .
intel.ir is registered by : jafari,shahab since : 22 Dec 2003 and Intel Corporation can't get it .

i registered godaddy.ir registred by : me since 10 october 2006 and Godaddy just can Buy it .

copyright laws is weak in Iran (IR) and you can do anything .

I could not find any information about .ir being a sponsored tld. nic.ir. However, I searched for about 5 minutes and may be wrong.

I registed some names that are not related to companies

such as hotsms.ir hotchat.ir ,...

worst thing that can happen is you'll have to turn the domains over to those companies.

P.S.: something tells me the possibility of you getting sued by a US company in Iran is not too high ;)

What's the point of registering them? The big companies won't buy them & they won't get much traffic. If you develop the sites you will become a target of their lawyers (they don't care if they are parked & non-revenue producing) and you wouldn't be able to use western registrars, western hosts, western sources of income (adsense, clickbank..) or use western payment procersssors (paypal, moneybookers...). How will they make you money?

actually using famous brands as a domain name sometims is not a good choice, as you say it coudl be illegal, furthermore you are using a known brand then your services must be according to this company

for first : sign up here and create an NIC Handle . (http://register.nic.ir )
after do it . you got a NIC handle and you can login with this Handle to your panel .

after login you can register a domain for a trial days ( 8 Days )
if you don't pay domain fee after 8 days . domain will be availabe to register with other .

every .ir domain has :
- Legal Holder
- Admin Handle
- Technical Handle

if you want to sale a domian you can send a request to nic.ir to change Admin Handle /Technical Handle . ( you should send request by fax )

If you want change Leagal Holder of name you should send your passport copy and your customer passport copy .( you sould send information and request by fax )

An ICANN dispute resolution costs at the minimum $1500 USD to get the domain name back. Add to that the lawyer fees that a big corporation must pay to file the claim and you can see it costs a few thousand dollars to get a domain through ICANN. Anything cheaper than that is a bargain to the company trying to get it. (Not that I would suggest any sort of extortion or squatting.)
